Ted Briggs, the last of the 3 survivors of HMS Hood has died.
My late father in law served on HMS Hood and was meant to be on that trip - but he missed the boat because he was drunk!!
If he had been sober, chances are he would have been killed - then no children, then no ex, and I wouldn't have had the lovely daughters and grandchildren I have!!

Hi Maggie
I had a relative of my husband who died on the Hood.
Because he was in sick bay they had no time to take him off before the fateful sailing.
Thus he perished.

My mother in laws uncle.

I am in contact with his grand daughter.

Hi can anyone tell me please if it is possible to search for the crew who perished on The Hood ?, I have been told that 3 brothers, my Gt. Uncles were among the crew.

Thank you

Hi Luelli
I put HMS Hood into Google and lots of info is there.

One site lists those who perished

www.hmshood.com/crew/memorial/index.htm

Good luck, hope you find some useful info

Linda :o)

My dad was a stoker on H.M.S. Volage all through the war.He did not marry until well after the war.

My mother's sister's husband,John, was a regular sailor and spent the most part of the war ashore. He was married with a son and a daughter who had been adopted from another unmarried sister. Keep up. His wife was pregnant in 1946 when my dad was demobbed.John went aboard Volage to take my dad's place as a stoker.

Hostilities had finished and they were minesweeping in the Corfu Channel.(The Corfu Incident). To cut a long story short,John was blown up.His wife was left to bring up three children, one he had never seen, without a widow's war pension because hostilities had ceased.
