Maz (the Royal One) in the East End 9256 Report 8 Oct 2008 23:30

What a fantastic evening :-))

Charlotte was wonderful - so clearly spoken, you could hear every word. Their interpretation of Othello was fab and cheered to the rafters!

We saw 4 1/2 hour versions of Shakespeare plays, Othello, Romeo & Juliet, The Tempest and As You Like It. What an incredible amount of talented kids there are!! Each was superbly produced and performed.

WELL DONE CHARLOTTE AND ALL CAST MEMBERS !!!

a very proud Maz. xxxxxxxxx

A memorable day for all.
I'm glad it went so well. It's good to read of young people enjoying learning this way.

Hi Gwyn :-)
yes it is, and to think of these children who are probably almost all from so-called challenging backgrounds, some with English as their 2nd language, living in a very deprived area, actually wanting to perform something as traditional and 'old-fashioned' as Shakespeare is just wonderful. And they didn't just go through the motions, they put their hearts and souls into it and really performed. I shouldn't be at all surprised if some of them made really big names for themselves in the future.

What a wonderful evening. If any of you get the chance in your local theatres to see 'Shakespeare for Schools' please take the opportunity.

I found it a very emotional evening...not only because Marion's beautiful daughter starred but to see so many young people thoroughly enjoying themselves by entertaining others was so uplifting.

I cannot believe what untapped talent there is in this country.

I am quite sure this evening I have seen one or two stars of the future.

Thanks Maz.

I was there in thought cheering her on.

You should be proud of the lovely young lady that you have raised.

so glad you enjoyed it Jean :-)

many of these kids could easily be involved in trouble of one kind or another, so for them to get 'into' drama is great, they will make good role models too.

we also said how relevant a lot of Shakespeare's subjects are to today - the 'gangs' in Romeo & Juliet, the jealousy in Othello, power crazed leaders in Macbeth etc, so they CAN be made to appeal to young people if taught in the 'right' way.
