Would letting the house be possible?

I've seen alot more interest in lets locally, probably because people can't raise the money to buy.

Well, the woman had spoken to their mortgage advisor and it's a no-go, they won't be able to raise a big enough mortgage.

LOL Ros, they do. My bro bought a bungalow for them as Dad is disabled now and was struggling with the stairs. 1 bed no good LOL, dad snores too much LOL

The house they're selling is the house I grew up in since 15 months old. But it's surprising how much money you still have to put in even when it's empty and of course they still have to pay council tax (you get six months free and then it's halfed) and can't turn the gas & electric off. Bills just in were £20, not much but it's money they don't have spare, plus building insurance and boiler insurance.

Vods, it's the house they're in now that she has said about going for, my brother's solicitor has said that he thinks there's no one who would award her a share of it. But there's always that worry.

Some people are in a far worse position, the house next to where they're living now has been up for sale for a year now. They had it sold once but the other buyer's mortgage fell through, they had to pull out of buying their dream house. That said, they've not reduced the price in all that time, so they're trying to sell at an unrealistic price I think.

With my brother's divorce they were worried about the impact on them living in the house, and there was talk of his soon to be ex going after the bungalow. I pointed out there was no equity in it...in fact she'd probably just be getting half of the debt because it would sell for a good 20k less than what they'd paid and it's all mortgage...why would anyone want that (other than to be spiteful)?

Liz, such a shame things have dragged on this long, and hope all works out with the buyer. Awful that the price has had to be reduced already, less for your parent's nest egg.

Someone is very interested in my parents house and is speaking to the Mortgage people this week. This is the first real interest since April and Mum and Dad can't afford to keep paying the bills on it. So please keep your fingers crossed that in this difficult market the woman will get her mortgage and sell her own house.

We're all trying hard not to get our hopes up, but it would be a lovely xmas pressie. They already came down in price by 20k since it went up.
