My OH bought me an 18ct gold ring with 3/4 carat solitaire diamond for my 35th birthday. He was standing outside a jewellers having a cig when he spotted it in the window. He decided that if it was the right size, then he would buy it - it was!!

His 40th birthday was 10 days after mine, and he had already expressed his wish for a Rolex - he got it!!

I must be a very a selfish person as the most expensive present I ever received is something I would not have bought for myself.

A large gold cross with diamonds, rubies and emeralds. The gold chain is thick and entwined and sometimes I use it on its' own.

I am a christian but no longer attend services, so I feel uncomfortable wearing this beautiful piece of jewellery.

Half the deposit for my first house, which my dear old Dad, gave me.

The most touching, a bottle of Chanel No 5, which my OH bought our first Christmas of knowing each other. More so as he went in the shop to buy it himself, and in the 1960's men did not do that sort of thing.

Tina, I am glad you wear your ring often. Your opal should be fine, just make sure you keep the ring out of water, opals don't like being soaked and then drying, that's why they sort of shrink and come out of their mount and get lost, hence the idea they are unlucky.

I guess my son was a pretty good birthday present altho he arrived two weeks and a day early for my 35th!

My son was born on 20th December 1984. Can he count as my most expensive Christmas present?

Mine was an Omega watch bought by my lovely son,

All because I had cancer and thought I deserved it !!

Bless him.....felt guilty I only asked for a silver bracelet as he kept on wanting to buy me a present.
I said Argos got a lovely one £12-99.

Shock horror when I found out the price !!

An opal and diamond ring my Mum and Sister got me for my 50th Birthday - believe me its expensive!!!! I tried the ring on as a joke in the jewellers (as my sister was having a watch strap replaced) and we both ooh and ahhed at the ring in the window. As she has been going to the same jewellers for years felt comfortable asking to try the ring on even though I admitted would not be purchasing it and felt comfortable that nobody else would! Well that was a year before my 50th, was I dumb-struck when I opened up a little box with the ring in. I am terrified of losing the big square opal, but wear it most days, as it seems a shame to keep it in the box.

My second most expense was my harp from my husband (again another 50th pressie). That was truely a year to remember.

But I was equally just as happy with the little teddy bear my best friend got me and sits pride of place on my dressing table.

I had just left college so was pretty much without funds.I was coming home from the part-time job I had been doing and thinking about going up the scrap-yard to get a water pump for the car.

One of my neighbours, who I had never had much to do with but was on speaking terms was walking along the road. She had just retired from the police force and was, somehow known around the village to be a bit officious. This was not right at all.

I stopped and spoke to her, telling her how my car was becoming a liability. The man up the scrap-yard must have thought I was after him,now there's a thought!

Anyway,she gave me her car.
