Hi Marilyn, Mo, Shelley, Rita and Pauline Welcome home Marilyn Sorry the cruise wasn't so good, long way to go to be disappointed. You have cruised before I think? Who was the cruise line. I have been a couple of times with a French one (nolonger in service), Italian (MSC) and American (NCL) all were great and not time limited on eating in restaurants that I remember, at least there was always a self service cafe to get food almost 24 hours !! Well I finished the ironing..................... til I do more washing tomorrow, where does it all come from? I have managed 7 place names today too, so pleased they are getting done................ only 24 more to do. Just watched Gladiator with hubby, that is a good film. Off to bed soon, earlier night tonight.
See you all bright and early tomorrow. Rubbish already out, even though hubby leaves around 5:00. They might be even earlier !!!

WELCOME HOME MARILYN. Like the others,I always thought that you could eat at your own leisure, and not at set times. How sad about people passing away on board. Are you sure it wasn't the food that did them in. lol Rita will be upset that you did not bring her a toyboy back. I know Liz wanted one,but so did our Rita. Back to reality now mate,I'm afraid. Whens your next holiday booked for,and where.? Never mind Rita, perhaps next time you will get your toyboy.

welcome home Marilyn sorry it was'nt what you expected but at least it was a break for you. I would hate to go to a place where you have to be called in time for your breakfast. I did that when I frst started going to holiday camps in 1946 we got waky waky with a loud speaker and you had set times. if you didnt appear you didnt eat. but I enjoyed them otherwise. I was expecting you to bring me back a man any even a young Richard Gere in white uiform. never mind we cant have all we want. must be grateful for what we have. It is nice to have you back on board (sorry about that PUN )
Linda your end up eith a bad back tomorrow planting all those seed in trays. MY daughter phoned to say Steve was a lot better this time after his second lot of chemo they gave him extra strong sickness pills. he said he felt like a puppet as he had to have two pumps into his arms I said what is he doing now. both he and my daughter had brought some painting by numbers and were doing those. I said dont make too much of a AirFix it kit of air i planes to do.

Welcome back Marilyn, great to have you home again.
So, it wasn't to your liking, didn't think you'd like getting up early in the morning while you were on holiday. I thought those cruises had food laid out all day and you could eat at any time (as well as meal times).
Well you'll have disappointed Rita by not getting her a toy-boy, she was hoping you'd bring her one back.
It must have been a bit depressing having 4 people die while on the cruise. What a shame the old man had no family at his funeral and the old woman had to go home alone, how sad.

HELLO..HELLO..HELLO..!
Ive unpacked......2 lots of washing on, now trying to read all messages ,but my eyes have gone funny ,so I have given up on that..LOL
Now I wont be going on anymore cruises....as it was a bit like Butlins ! I don't like to be told when to get up in the mornings..... if you didn't you missed out breakfast , so that was what put be off of cruising ! I didn't even fancy the Captain...didn't do nothing for me ,so I did not want to dine with him .LOL.
Liz there where no toy boys but plenty of aging cronies ..!! LOL
Unfortunately 4 died on the cruise ,one sat on our table, a nice man 82 yrs young, just keeled over in his cabin he was with his partner aged 79yrs. So we looked after her and helped her with all the arrangements . She got off the ship and came home.He was put ashore in Melbourne and was requested by his next of kin to be cremated out there and his ashes sent home at a later date !
All a bit daunting but we did have a good time in spite of it but its just not for me to ever go on another ship.
I have been traveling for 30hours and feel like YUK !!
So going to have my lovely bath, then I'll be bright as rain tomorrow.
Shelly I did not find you a Wind Chime ...but I will......one day.LOL
Speak later......

Easter greetings everyone. It's a very wet windy day here. I am trying not to put the fire on,but no doubt when Roly gets home from the club,he will want it on. I am spending a lazy day, sitting around in my pyjamas. Have had my bath, just made a nice cup off tea,so I thought I would just pop in to say hi. I wish I had as much enthusiasm as you Linda, for getting out in the garden. But it has been far to wet and cold here to do very much clearing out there. When it warms up a little,I must start to do something,or else my plants will not be very successful. It's different for you Linda, you have a big day to prepare for.

Morning Rita and all Up late this morning, hubby left at 5:00 and I slept on as we were late back last night. Had a really nice time. Our meal was Parma ham and melon starter, Beef casserole and roast potatoes and veg and dessert was fresh fruit and creme fraiche. No wine last night just orange juice and tea to drink. Managed 5 name settings yesterday. Did most of the ironing, have to do hubby's white shirts today UGH !!! Hope to get in the garden today. It is bright right now the sun is shinning and there is some blue sky.
Have a smashing day today this Easter Sunday.
No eggs bought this year all getting too old, Eldest had a cutlery set she needed. Youngest will have some dollars for her honeymoon, we will take our son and DIL for a meal when she is out of the foot plaster.

Morning Rita, and everyone else when they get here.
Happy Easter!
It's lovely and sunny here, no rain, no wind and quite mild.........I've tempted fate by saying that - it'll rain now.
I used to like to paint eggs Rita, never done it for years. We use to boil them hard first, then paint faces on them.

Yvonne, your g,grandfather probably worked at the brick fields, local to me at either Otterham Quay,Funton,Conyer. Where they were situated back in the 1900's,was all orchards, and very small lanes leading to the sites. Now all the orchards have been cleared, and housing estates have been erected. Even in the 1960's,you could ride a bike around the country side where the brickworks were. In fact Roly worked at the brickworks,at Otterham Quay, for quite a few years, before they shut it down. The Funton works are still producing bricks. The site overlooks the river Medway. But the production off bricks has greatly reduced, since the building boom has collapsed. Do you happen to know which brickmakers he worked at. If you do I could try to find out more info for you.

Mo my mothers family came from Somerset as I said but they were either laundry workers when they arrived in Chelsea but I was surprised at the trades of the others we have school teachers. carpenters. shop owners. one a big stores selling tools and oils stuff like that we had dress makers that was my mothers trade my sister became a school teacher as well.we also had part owners in Trebor sweets, .but they didnt seem to help the poorer parts of the family out. My Dads family like yours Mo were ag Labourers but like yours some went into the forces the Navy and army and the followed on father son and son etc five generations Pauline I dont think they would have had much in the way of furniture in those days on the farms they had next to nothing perhaps that was why they didnt move that far each time breaking the journey as they went till they made for London and wales..
as for writing a letter to Anchor thats a laugh because it works like this. I send a letter up north to the head office with a complaint. they pass it down to the next one in the line they in turn read it and pass it to the next one who inturn passes it to The area Manager she write to me and sends a copy to my Estate Manger of my letter and her reply. she is an ex army woman and I mean ex army a strick supporter of her manager so which every way you go you are met with a FULL STOP how do I know this I made a complaint sometme ago nothing insulting just asked for the managers work to be listed so we knew her responsibilites . and guess what she put it all her way. in fact I was so annoyed at the letter I didnt speak to the area manager or the estate manger and didnt go to the AGM meeting either for a while.

Hello my lovelies. Most off my ancestors came from Devon + Cornwall, and were AG/LABS,or were shipwrights. So I suppose it made sense that they would travel up this way to Kent, for the AG work available here in the fields off Kent. And also there was the dockyard here. The other side off the family, joined the army, and did very well for themselves eventually. It would seem that, sons followed fathers, into the forces. My great uncle died in the trenches,in the first world war,no more than a boy off eighteen. It is so shocking to think that,we never learn, and still continue to send lads off to a war, where the unseen enemy still kills them.

Rita, I still think you should write a letter of complaint and get everyone to sign it. At the very least it might make her a bit more concerned for the welfare of the people who live there.
Thankfully you have good friends and neighbours to help you out when you can't get around.
Our ancestors didn't have much but I think they had good friends and neighbours. They all seemed to help each other out in those days.
Can you imagine putting all of your furniture on a cart when you moved house?
They must have had a lot of things broken when they went over the cobbles. Probably had all the kids on the back trying to stop things falling off.

Hi Linda that was nice to get some Daffadils I use to go to the woods at Chalfont st giles and they had fields of bluebells there you were allowed to pick them at that time not anymore you get a summons. I have lots of bluebells coming up on the little bit of flower border outside my bedroom window. I did fish and chips yesterday in the oven for me. I really enjoyed that as I had not done any dinner since my leg made it hard for me to stand up. without two walking sticks. Pauline it is nice when you find normal everyday things out about your family and ancestors I expect they took there items on a horse and cart or borrowed one.what a hard life they seemed to have had in those times. mine was due to the potatoe and crop famine in Devon three of the brothers went to Wales and worked in the pits what a difference to fresh air and then to work in a dark damp pit. Pauline that happened to me twice this morning I typed stuff out and it whoosed went somewhere not on this thread though. The elderly man in the flat above rang the bell to see if I wanted any thing from Waitrose I said I didnt I relly did but I didnt want him to carry a 4 lire of milk bottle. so I said I had lost the list then Carole c ame and she asked me so she got my shopping as she had her car. she had just brought it back and was putting it away when the bell went again this time it was my other friend arent people kind. Note my Estate Manager didnt come she has not even asked what the doctor said she drove off in her car to get her shopping.. she has put peoples backs up at the way she treated Carole and me they said she is not fit to be a manager she is 34 and Polish and has no idea how to look after an estate. still I said just take no notice our turn will come

Sorry Pauline yes it was steak !!! But I've had fish about 3 times this week already , does that count? Not sure what we will have tonight, I'll let you know.
Eldest has just popped over and brought some lovely daffodils, spring really is here. I remember as a child staying in Kent with her friend's family and we picked wild primroses and violets for the Mum. Just a snapshot memory. How easily we were pleased then. Mind you can't pick wild flowers now.
Enjoy today everyone

Rita, I've found quite a few things about my ancestors that I didn't know. I found it strange how they moved around so much but they obviously had to go where the work was.
Not that my family moved very far away (only 50 or 60 miles) but they did move about often. I wonder if they took all of their belonging on a horse and cart every time they moved from area to area.
