sponsorship of a dog for a year with the Dog Trust. He did receive a nice photo and details of the dog. But today he received a letter from Wellie telling him all and signed with a paw print and lots of tail wags. I think it is lovely and keeping telling OH to write back to Wellie quickly!!!

I sponsor one of those dogs too. (I rescued one as well but he's another matter)

Last year I got a Valentine card from my sponsor dog!

It's a brilliant idea, I got adoption papers for two baby orphaned elephants for Christmas 2006, just about to re-adopt for the third year. It's lovely when news and photos come, hope he enjoys it as much as I still do.

What a lovely Present

Hope your hubby does reply, Wellie will be waiting with Baited Breathe
Pant! Pant! lol

What great idea for a present when you know they are animal lovers and you can't think of what to buy them.

Well we lost our dog aged nearly 16 last May and so for the first time in over 30 years we are dogless. (all our dogs have been rescued) however now is not a good time to take on a new dog as OH has his hands full - as I broke both wrists in April and am going for further surgery next week - but hopefully things will improve and we will have a furry friend again to plague us, spoil and love.

Hi Frances

That's the way it works though. We have two dogs that people can adopt at our local Dogs Trust. These dogs are never going to be rehomed because of whatever difficulties they may have. One of the original dogs (who died last year) had dietary problems and a skin condition so although you could adopt him you could not visit him.

It is a way of raising much needed money for the Dogs Trust though so please ask him to renew ... they do such a great job.

You would have thought so - but they may have had some sort of rota for visits - to limit them to a certain number per month or whatever ... could be worth asking them how that operates.

We used to walk the dogs at Dogs trust in Shoreham Sussex, don't know if that still happens, usually we went at set times, but it was great. It helped the dogs and the staff andmy son who at the time was ill, it got him out:o))

A years sponsorship is £52 now I know it cost more than that to feed ours for a week so to think that one is the only sponsor is a little naive. It is a wonderful way to raise money, Each branch probably puts up photos of the two most photogenic little darlings they have in order to bring as much money in as possible for the branch and heaven knows they need it more so in the coming months. At the moment we support Dog Trust/Blue Cross/ILPH and Salavation Army for the humans as they cover all.
In the past we adopted donkeys/whales/ponies for g.children.

Note there is one for Owls - have noted that friend who is daft about owls!

I sponsor a Guide Dog for the Blind and the Brownies I help with sponsor a Hearing Dog for the Deaf as a result of money raised performance they did for their parents and friends.

Both organisations send out regular updates on the sponsored dog. There is also an organisation called Canine Partners who train dogs to help physically disabled people.
