Hi Mac,
I was on Rampiril 1.25mg a day, then the doc told me to take 2 a day and the problems started!
I was also on one 'baby' aspirin a day, but as I haven't had either a stroke or a heart attack was very reluctant - besides which the 'baby' aspirins cost a lot more than the 'normal' ones.
Queried the aspirin with my nephrologist - told her I have now started taking aspirin for headaches, rather than paracetamol - she said that would do fine.
In fact what she said was, if I took 1 ordinary aspirin a week - it would have the same effect as a 'baby' aspirin every day - at much less cost!!
(remember drug companies are the greatest rip off merchants - next to banks of course!!)

If I was your MIL, I would go back, get the situation clarified and ask for different pills. I only have one kidney and haven't cooked with or put salt on my food (apart from roast potatoes!) for over 6 years - and my kidney is, apparently in a fantastic state!
Mind you, I have never willingly drunk water - I prefer tea & vino. the nephrologist (kidney consultant) says it was fine, as water flushed essential minerals out of the kidneys, whereas tea actually increased the mineral content and function of the kidney.

I am also on blood pressure pills (for high BP) have only been on them 18 months - I was on one, and the GP then tried me on an ACE inhibotor as well - apparently they're better.
I felt awful - dizzy and constantly 'stoned' - couldn't concentrate and my short term memory just disappeared - all this just when I was taking an exam!!
Went back to doctor, who wanted me to 'persevere' - but as I work full time, and eas becoming unable to function properly, I refused.
He's now put 'Don't give ACE inhibitors' on my notes.

Hi nutty you don't say whether your mum in law suffers with high or low blood pressure (I suspect low) but if she has a poor appetite and is not getting enough salt through her food she may suffer with dizzy spells/fainting? if she isn't eating properly then maybe a suppliment like fortisip from her gp might help

Hi nutty bongo

My OH has high blood pressure. When he recently suffered dizziness he had to have certain medications changed, seems to have helped, he's asthmatic too.

No-one ever increased his salt levels.

Will google, see what I can find out.

I know, i am really confused. They say that she has really low salt, so it must be really really low, not sure what to think of it all. Thanks

I thought you had to avoid salt for high blood pressure and kidneys!

Hi there folks,
A little help needed. My mum in law has had problems with her blood pressure tablets and was getting dizzy, but they are also giving extra salt because of the kidneys. Does anyone know why they do this. She won't eat properly at the moment and has gone to bed. Thanks folks
