I've run out of internet data, on GR/Ancestry and other sites.

Now I think the hard work starts.

My first port of call will be the County Records Office in Hertfordshire. No idea what records they have, nor if it's worth a 500 mile trip, because I've not done that before (County records office),

Has anyone experience of 'beyond census', and willing to offer advice?

My paternal line came from Hertfordshire and it was one of my first County Records Office visits when I first started FH. They were very helpful and had a good amount of information. Well worth a visit.
Good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for. I always found it much more statisfying than looking on the web.

You could look at the website - might give you some more info as to what you might find.

Thanks Penny,

I'll check that out first before burning the diesel.

Thank you for advice.

I often go to the Society Of Genealogist in London as it can save a few trips to various Record Offices around the country . Again its worth looking on their website to see if they hold the records that you want.
Good Luck.

Thanks Silverlady.

I never knew that the Society of Genealogists even existed!

Googled their site, and looks like a way forward.

Many thanks for the advice.

Hals are very helpful and have helped me find out about the history of my house. Which part of Hertfordshire are you looking for?

Martin

Martin Report 14 Apr 2009 23:16

Janet,

The areas of Hertsforshire I'm looking for are Redbourn, Great Whelnetham, Little Gaddesden, Great Gaddesden. all pre 1830's.

If you can offer any help / advice, I'd be very appreciative.

Hi Berona,

It is probably quicker to fly form Aus, than it is to drive full circle on the M25!

I do appreciate your sentiment.

Where was your records Office?

If it's anywhere near the Southwest (UK) I'll try and look them up for you. As for the South East (UK), I'm asking other kind souls for help.

Australia, UK, no difference in my book.

Apart from HALs I'd try the Curious Fox website as a starter.

I'd offer to go to HAL's but I am snowed under at the mo with uni work and other stuff so can't get there for the forseeable future. Sorry.

Perhaps you could put a request on records office to see if anyone is heading to HALs.

Penny,

My mistake, Great Whelnetham is Suffolk. She married Hertfordshire.
