Winter Drawers Ever Near

Winter Drawers Ever Near Report 16 Apr 2009 19:51

Can't believe what happened a couple of hours ago.

Absolute monsoon came down and I had to sit in the car for about 15mins before legging it to the porch.

Got inside and fed the monster pup. He suddenly started barking at the back door. First in itself as he never barks. Got quite frantic so I opened the back door. Thought he must be desperate for the loo which is unusual.

He didn't bother with the steps, he just jumped the garden wall and bolted straight for a hole he had made in the lawn.

Next minute I saw him scooping up the tortoise with one of his ruddy great paws and plonking her on the lawn!

She must have decided with the temperature dropping today to go into one of his holes instead of her own and the rain came down so heavy it filled up and she couldn't get out.

Now how did he know that. Amazing.

I've forgiven him for jumping on my toe again, twice in one week. Back to the good old days of hobbling around. I'm the one who looks as if I need a carer.

An extra large marrow bone for him tomorrow I think.

Bless.

How amazing, funny what animals can sense when we are oblivious to a problem, you will have to fill that hole in with shingle or something in case tortoise does it again!

That's amazing Aileen, do you think the tortoise was sending out distress signals that only the dog could hear.......makes you wonder.....

Hi,

Have brought the tortoise indoors. She is in the dog's basket. Had to put it in the hall as he has decided to eat that as well as everything else in the bloody house and garden!

Yes you have guessed..... a chunky chocolate labrador. He is a year old now and still a pup. He will never grow up this one.

My daughter couldn't just buy a chocolate labrador. She had to buy a chunky one. No problem., then again......

Just one..... he is a giant breed, show dog sized variety. I should have realised what I was taking on when I looked at his pedigree and all I kept seeing was "Winston Churchill" in his ancestors.

He was some bleeding size old Winston. However as I am a great admirer of the man then it must be fate we got pooch.

Is his name Winston lol?

I wanted a chocolate labrador but won't be getting a dog now I don't think, even if I get back to my house won't be able to afford all it needs.

Obviously a truely refined labrador with Winston Churchill in his family tree!

My sister had a yellow labrador, when she came back with "the puppy" her father said that is not a puppy! She said it is but a big boned variety. She was very tall. A really lovely friendly dog.

What a fab dog !!!

I love chocolate labradors - I helped with a litter of 7 the year before last as the mum died giving birth to them :-( . They were so tiny & cute .
