I had also joined the Justice for Gurkhas campaign, and am so very very pleased at this outcome.
Well done to Joanna Lumley, Nick Clegg and ALL the others who tried so hard for these lovely men who have fought, and still fight, for Great Britain.

As I mentioned in another thread yesterday...(which has now strangely disappeared) I would far rather have a retired Gurkha and his whole family living next door to me than some of the rubbish who gets let in to the UK with their hands held out grabbing all the freebies they can sponge, without any thought of ever contributing to anything.

AB FAB news......... I had joined the Joanna Lumley site to voice my opinion on this and give my support to these wonderful soldiers and even e-mailed my MP (wonder if she even read it). I am glad that the voice of reason has been heard in this country at last.

About time too, they have been treated disgracefully by a country they have so loyally served and died for. How come they can allow the illegal immigrants to stay who have done NOTHING for this country.

It makes one ashamed of our government. Pity we can't send them to war.

Sorry if my comments upset anyone but it's how I feel.

About time these men were given the recognition for their unstinting loyalty (to a country that has up to now) been extremely ungracious in its thanks.
Our debt can never be repayed to so many who died for a country that was not their own.

Lets hope something happens now then. We owe them so much. For once the vote was in tune with the people.

Good!
Perhaps they'll realise we owe these people so much!
I he'd listened to the people he'd have realised what we thought!

Gordon Brown's government has suffered a shock defeat in the Commons on its policy of restricting the right of many former Gurkhas to settle in the UK.

MPs voted by 267 to 246 for a Lib Dem motion offering all Gurkhas equal right of residence, with the Tories and 27 Labour rebels backing it.
