Yesterday I had to go to c a Consultant at the hospital as I have been suffering pretty bad with my leg and when I got home I had a early night and went to bed and when I got upstairs I had a mega panic attack and it took ages calming myself down again

so i am wondering if anyone has suffered panic attacks and how do you cope with them

I do, they're crippling so i know what you feel like.
There's abook called "self help for your nerves" that I found really good. She helps you to ride with the feelings to eventually difuse them, it works and the attacks are less severe, mind if I'm stressed they are more difficult to bring under control. Good luck

Tinky, please join the Depression/Anxiety thread, there are a few of us on there who do have these Anxiety attacks.

Breathing exercises can help. I try and focus on other things, usually something mundane, like visualising an apple or a flower. Anything to try to change your thought process.

Tinky,

Breath into a paper bag.........Get them at McDonald 's.

Grab one next time your in there I carry one in my bag ......and yes I ended up in hospital on my last one through climbing steps too quickly I could not breath when I got to the top, then PANIC set in .

So I do sympathize with you.

Take care x

Hi Tinky,
I agree with the paper bag method.
My Grown up daughter started having panic attacks.
I got her to breathe into a paper bag. It calmed her breathing down.
Once she got the hang of it. When she was out and felt an attack coming on she started doing her breathing exercises. She can now control her attacks better.

Hi Tinky,
Carry a paper bag with you at all times.
The paramedics use this method if they suspect someone is having a panic attack.

Try using Rescue Remedy, drops or spray now too, it really helps keep you calm, take it before doing something you aren't looking forward to, like hospital or dental appointments etc. It's pretty safe for everyone but do read the info or ask where you buy it, info on line too. I take a few drops on my tongue if I am stressed or before flying etc.
