Anyone else noticed an abundance of them this year?????? I'm not too bothered by them, they hurt, and they swell and they itch... but not by much. Poor hubby, however, they make a beeline for him..... he is living on piriton at the moment. |

Have not seen any at the moment, but was bitten years ago by horse flies in Switzerland, and was so ill for weeks after. I still have scars on my chest from them and this was over 30 years ago. |

Kybosh? I'll look out for it... there have been a couple in the conservatory, as well..... Susan,. no, the horsefly is different to the daddy longlegs... it looks similar to a fly, but longer and narrower... has a more rectangular rather that triangular shape, lol... I'll google in a mo, and put up the link... vicious devils, they are, as Teddy's Girl can testify. I hope your hands feel better soon. |

This may sound a daft question ,but are horse flies found just in the country or wherever there are horses? We have stables just over the road and a lot of the horses look like something from Medival times with their heads ,ears ,eyes covered. Is that for Horse flies ,normal flies or sun??? |

It's the females Helen... they have to have a chunk of mammal flesh to get them *in the mood* so to speak, lol!! I think they are more abundant in the countryside... cows and horses tend not to attack back! |
