Allan Report 3 Aug 2010 22:53

Amanda, I used to make elderberry wine many years ago together with rose-petal wine and various others.

I still make my own beer from basic ingredients rather than from kits and I have recently decided to start making wine again, although wine is cheap enough to buy here.

We had our first cauli from the veg patch a couple of days ago and a couple more are ready for eating.

good evening again everyone, I have had to make some phone calls.

We did go to the allotment this afternoon, we have a large fruit cage,so I cut out all the old raspberry canes and tied in all the new ones, that took ages.

Dianne, I brought back, a cauli, some cabbages, lots of yellow courgettes, some rhubarb and a large amount of beetroot. Oh and some garlic bulbs. i have plaited most of them, French style and hung them up to dry, but there were a few which i had to cut the stems from, so they are back here.

Hello Allan, you arrived along with lots of posts, while I was typing

Hello Allan .......well done with the cauliflower growing . We don't even bother to try as the ones I grew some years back looked like white broccoli and wouldn't form a nice head : (

Home made Ale / beer is yummy ....... but again , we haven't done any for a few years . I expect we would need to get new barrels etc if we wanted to start again . The powers that be do like to change the design of taps etc from time to time and it renders the older style ones useless as you can't get the spares : (

Good Morning/Evening Everyone,

I hope everyone is well today .

I have finished throwing furniture around the house for now. I do however have a lot of decorating to do before winter comes. I hate decorating with all the doors and windows shut.

Diane Report 3 Aug 2010 23:03

Linda I would love to be able to grow my own veggie's and fruit, the only thing I have growing on my small veranda is mint, I hope to try and grow a few more herbs. I grew a tomato plant for one of my granddaughter's on my bedroom window sill that she gave me and it did very well.

CC I'll have to look into the Gaia thing ....I've heard a little about it . It might well be the answer .

OH made Rhubard wine ( it might have been the one we nick named " bung melter "....lol ) ....... I know I turned into " greedy pig " and consummed far to much ( like you do ) .......the next day I actually had a severe attack of the bends , which dropped me to the floor ! ......a lesson learnt ! lol

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 3 Aug 2010 23:06

Linda.....perhaps I ought to have another go at the Caulis again then : )

I heard they don't like being dry at any point and that is probably why the ones I grew failed miserably .

Evening Tec : ))

Allan

Allan Report 3 Aug 2010 23:07

lol Amanda

I frequently get those attacks after drinking any wine although in my case it's usually through quantity not ingredients :0))

Good evening Tec.

Good evening Tec, glad you are alright as I was wondering were you were.
You must try and make headway with your decorating or it will never be finished when I come to Wales for a visit. In fact I'm hopeing to be in the Rhuddlan Denbighshire area in October, how far is that from you.

Good Morning Allan,

Thank you for the very interesting photo's, very nice.
I know exactly what you mean about Coventry Cathedral, and felt the same as you when I visited.
I have mentioned before on here the friend I had who lived in a 13th Century Cistercian Monastery - no matter how many times I visited I was always very conscious of the atmosphere of calm and tranquility that was almost tangible.......a very peaceful place in the Welsh hills.

LOL Allan ..... a kindred spirit then ...lol

It was funny at the time ....I was doubled up in pain but laughing at the same time ....lol

Have you ever made Mead ? Now there is a drink like no other ( and I can't abide the taste of Honey )..........lol

It has been very dry here this year Amanda and as we don't have water, they never get watered. It must just be a good year for them because every bodies look good whereas last year bolted.

Diane, you should try growing mixed salad leaves on your veranda. Any type of container will do, You can just pick off the few leaves which you want and leave them to grow. it is much cheaper and nicer than buying bags of salad from the supermarket

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 3 Aug 2010 23:14

Don't shout at me Linda, I took time off this summer to do my own thing in the garden making my water feature that I was determined to do this year.
I leant to ignore the house for a while, and wouldn't have noticed had it fallen down. So there.

They never sell yellow courgettes in the supermarkets, i don't know why because they are so much better than the green ones. They have a really nice creamy taste and are good in soup as well as the normal uses. i give loads of stuff to the next door neighbour and she loves them as well

CC.....I doubt we have ley lines in Norfolk , well not they I know of anyway.

I don't doubt I'm very tuned into the seasons ( all the years of being a gardener have done that ) ...... so the Earth Mother theory all sounds good to me : ))

I wasn't shouting at you Tec, if I was it would have been typed in capitals. Diane back me up here, we were telling him to start the dining room months ago.
Anyway, your water feature was a bad idea, look how it made it rain
