Linda I think that is a good idea and saw some being grown on a TV programme a few month's ago and wondered if I could do that. I have a small ledge about 12inches wide were I can put pot's and flower troff's on. the only problem is the cat tend's to jump on there and nibble at newly grown leave's, mind you she stay's away from the mint.

Amanda, Mead is the one beverage that I have never tried to make.

I did try my hand at distillation (illegally!) at one stage but soon gave it up.

Diane, I can't talk for Tec but yes as a married man I know second hand about most "woman's" problems :0))

CC, it's strange but Gaia can not only be traced back to earliest times but I believe that there is a connection with the cult of Isis, the moon goddess of ancient Egypt

Diane, Rhuddlan in Denbighshire is rather a long way from here - I'm in Gwynedd, and in the old area of South Merioneddshire before they meddled with all the old county names.

Would that have been Buckfast Abbey CC, I have been there a long time ago. They also make it on Lindisfarne, I have been there quite a few times

The ledge would be ideal Diane I have two large tubs, but also have two small rectangular troughs as well. It is amazing just how much you can grow from one small pack of seeds in a small space

Diane Report 3 Aug 2010 23:27

Linda is right Tec, it has done nothing but rained since you did that water feature so you might as well have done the dining room

CC I don't have a problem with men answering back, I'm my own boss ( don't have an OH anymore. )

Amanda do you live anywhere near Thetford in Norfolk ?

Allan .....if you'd like the recipe we use I'm sure I could wring it out of my OH and send you a pm at some point . We make five gallons at a time ( no point doing less as I'm afraid the " greedy pig " in me just won't be told only one bottle when I feel the urge to drink it ....lol ) , we buy the Honey a few jars at a time , over a period of weeks / months , that way it doesn't seem like such an outlay . It really is a glorious drink : ))

We had a go at distilling ! Scary stuff and the result was even more frightening than the process.........lol

Good morning/evening everyone. Great! I got here before midnight - and up to date with the posts, too!

Can someone please explain what SADS, FM and JHM stand for?

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 3 Aug 2010 23:30

Diane ...Thetford is about 60 miles from me . I'm right on the coast , very close to Gt Yarmouth .

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 3 Aug 2010 23:30

I have to admit it has rained ever since I made the water feature.

CC- Much as I am in awe of your potions and lotions and voodoo mixtures, I flatly refuse to set fire to leaves in my living room - would I go to the trouble of re-decorating, only to have a bonfire in the room?

Linda - glad you had a nice time. Hope you gave Eve a cuddle from each of us - we do that so that YOU can have lots of cuddles.

YES! We most certainly did encourage Tec to do the dining room months ago, when his OH said it looked 'tired'. We added our suggestion, but I think they made HIM feel tired too.

Allan

Allan Report 3 Aug 2010 23:31

Diane, I went to Thetford once with the Army Reserve on a major exercise. My unit was there to provide 'real' medical care as well as being part of the exercise. It rained for the entire fortnight, and after ten days the exercise was called off. !

I am glad that you are here to back me up Berona, Tec, has a short memory - when he wants it to be that way.

The priory on Lindisfarne is just ruins CC, but the mead is still made there in a winery called St Stephens

Allan

Allan Report 3 Aug 2010 23:37

Good morning Berona.

Amanda, that would be very kind of you if you could send me the mead recipe.

My own recipes come from two old books which I bought when I lived in the UK.

One is called 'Home Made Country Wines" and consists of recipes that appeared in the 'Farmers Weekly'

The other is 'Winemaking with Canned & Dried Fruit' by C J J Berry.

I've had excellent results from both.

Good Morning Berona,

How are you this morning - hope the sun shines today.
I am still thinking about the dining room - only thinking mind you. I thought the longer I leave it, the longer it will last when I do get around to it.

Anyway, good to see you here early enough to catch us Poms - does this mean you are feeling better - I hope so - or does it mean the cat came bothering.

Tec.

Allan - very remiss of me. Thanks for the photos. Looks like a nice place to live. Busy - where you can get everything you need, yet spacious and therefore, peaceful.
