Just saying good morning to the thread. I hope everyone is well, not too many twinges this morning I hope Tec, after moving all that furniture.
I am going to bottle some beetroot, but will look in from time to time,

Berona

Berona Report 4 Aug 2010 11:34

Good morning Linda. Hope you enjoyed bottling your beetroot. That is the only kind of beetroot I eat. Recipes which have beetroot in them have never appealed to me. Have you tried any?

We have been following with concern, the case of a 6yo girl, missing since mother put her to bed Saturday and found the front door open on Sunday. One of those cases where the entire public want to help looking and many police, equipment and helicopters, etc. are used (at a great expense). We now learn that she has not been seen for three weeks and that parents are drug users and the Child Protection authorities have had a lot to do with them previously. Latest is that the police are interviewing the parents again. I suppose the next will be that they have made an arrest, although it is difficult for them without a body. My heart goes out to the little girl, but I feel that she is already dead and possibly has been for a couple of weeks. They have a new baby - 2 weeks old.
I wonder what the outcome will be, but I expect it to be soon.

Good evening Berona.

I have been following the same story, and I hold grave fears for the little girl's life.

I hope that I am totally wrong, but when I saw the little girl's mother wailing like she did on the news, I became a little cynical.

I sincerely hope that the youngster is found alive and well.

Just peeping to see what's going on in the world........

Opened my eyes this morning and realised I am still alive, so that's a good start to the day.

Now off to the supermarket.

Hello folks - have you been behaving yourselves?

Any reason why you shouldn't be alive when you woke up this morning Tec - surely there's been no nasty spells cast on you. Or are you hoping for a lovely princess to come along and give you the kiss of life:-))

I haven't tried beetroot in recipes Berona,I usually just bottle it. I like it just cooked as a vegetable, but at this time of year, there is so much coming out of the allotment that we can't eat it all, so I freeze or preserve things in other ways

I hope the little girl is found, but it doesn't sound hopeful, some poor children have no chance in life at all.

I am glad that you are still with us Tec,I hope your day continues in a good way

It would be a happy ending if the little one was found but unfortunately it's not looking good. I was also cynical Allan when I saw the mum on the news.

The bottling is all done for now CC, but there is still plenty more growing on the allotment. If I buy beetroot cooked form the supermarket, I get it without the vinegar, but when I preserve it, I use spiced vinegar which I make.. I made quite a lot of beetroot chutney last year, but OH prefers the plain beetroot,so that is all Iam doing this year.
I don't like bought pickled beetroot because as soon a you open the jar, it starts to turn brown. The home-made type doesn't turn brown no matter how long it is opened. Not that it lasts very long.

I thought about the Shannon Mathews case as well when I heard about the missing girl

I think I know which website it is. I used to be a member, but I left because I thought it was run by empire builders who seemed to spend most of their time fighting amongst themselves.

I just had to break off because the man came to service the burglar alarm. Money for old rope as far as I can see, he was in and out in no time.

I am still alive!

Today was a day of sunshine and showers - blue skies and fluffy white clouds with the occassional thunderous black cloud passing over. It was rather breezy too. That awful high humidity has gone, so it feels fresh again. My daughter phoned from the Isle of Wight, they are down there for "Cowes Week" she said it was very breezy there too, so there would be high jinks on the water with the yacht racing.

CC......Take care when stirring that cauldron as you sit there cackling over your latest spell - you might fall in.

Good evening Tec,
It poured down over night here, but it stopped just after breakfast. I walked to the supermarket and there was a lot of water on the side of the lane

Good evening Tec and Linda ...hello CC : ))

I'm in a state of high excitement this evening as I've just been round to visit my son and his girlfriend in their new flat . They have been searching high and low for a flat to rent and have found one less than five minutes from my house : ))) They are expecting their first baby in a couple of months , so I am well pleased to be so close at hand for support , if they need me .

All that talk of beetoot earlier made me wish I had some cooked ready to sink my teeth into it .....lol

I'm sorry to hear that LInda . I guess in the future I might face the prospect of one of mine moving away , I'd deal with it but it would be strange .

Good Evening Linda, and Amanda,

Linda I would be gone forever if I walked to my supermarket, it's 10 miles away lol.

Amanda, How exciting for your son and his girlfriend, and good that they are near your. My daughter's first home after marriage was in London, but now they live in Shropshire, still 100 miles away, but a lot nearer.
I think no matter how many times we move in our lives, we always remember our first home with affection.
Our first home was a flat, though it was a dump, it was special to us - I wish them both good luck, and happy times with their new baby.

Hello you motley crew - I'm baaaack:-)) Hope you are well.

I love beetroot - fresh, pickled whatever. I picked some lettuce leaves and rocket from the garden yesterday and although its winter made a little salad with home-grown capsicum (not sure what that is in the UK), lettuce, rocket and little grape tomatoes. Only the tomatoes were bought. We had this with chicken enchiladas which I also bought because they are so nice and I can't be bothered fiddling with them.

So glad your son and girlfriend have found a place of their own and so nice and close. That could be a good thing or a bad thing:-))

CC - thank you for sending the article. I'll read it later when I sit down with a coffee.

Good Morning Sue,

Hope you are bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning.

As I am not au fait with the things you bright young things eat these days - just what is chicken enchiladas?

Thank you Tec : )) I've been in my home for nearly 23 years , with no intention of moving , so when one of my children get a home I feed off their excitement.....lol

Sue , hello : )) Capsicums are sweet peppers I believe . I have one growing in the greenhouse but I don't think it will amount to much as I planted it far to late in the season .
I think it will be a good thing that my son is living close by . Having said that the first visit to his place involved me handing over a loaf of bread....lol
but he gave me a pound , so that nearly covers the cost .....lol
