No Diane because the pipework to the radiator was still in the way.

Sue, Amanda answered your query re ericacious compost, it's for things like azaleas, camelias, rhododendrons, heathers etc.

That would've been exciting Diane. I know we were talking about the steam train a few days ago but I'm not sure if this link was put up. A great photo of the Cockatoo Run train in my area.

If the link has already been posted just ignore me - I'm used to being ignored:-(

Glad you saw the steam train Diane, ours runs along the track that follows the beach, so I hear or see it everyday, always on time.

Goodness me! Everyone still awake! Good evening/morning to you all.

I never had success with azaleas either Sue until finally, I got ONE to grow - in the garden, beside the pipe with a grille on top (where the house pipes lead into the main sewer line). It was a very pretty flower and had been there for about three years, when we had a sewer blockage.
My son obtained the right equipment and he and I spent a lot of time looking down into this pipe to see how things were going - taking great care to hold the plant back out of the way.
At the time, we had a German Shepherd, who liked to do whatever we did and she kept poking her nose in whenever we looked to see if we were having any success with the removal of the blockage. When it was cleared, we replaced the grille and went back into the house. I looked out the window later to see the dog running around in circles shaking something which was hanging from her mouth.
That was my last effort at trying to grow azaleas!

Thanks for the explanation Amanda and Tec - I don't mind admitting my ignorance if I learn something new:-)) I'll have to give it a go.

Near the Blue Mountains there is a beautiful Rhododendron Garden. Quite spectacular when they are all in flower and here is yet another link.

Hello Berona ...... your poor Azalea ! Your dog sounds like one I used to have , he was only a pup at the time and used to sit and watch me plant my plants , going from place to place , he would sit and watch with interest .............as soon as my back was turned he would have whatever it was up and be running round the garden shaking it to pieces .....lol

Sorry Berona - couldn't help but laugh at the vision of your dog running around shaking your prized azalea.

Amanda - have you looked back on the Introduction thread. Ginny apologised for what she wrote. "Wumpty dumpty"... giggle.

Where I lived for more than forty years, was originally part of a market garden, but I think the bulldozers must have put all the good soil on the bottom when they moved in to clear the ground for our street. I could never get azaleas to grow and yet, only a few miles from here in the Ryde/Eastwood area, they seem to grow profusely. It's lovely to drive through there when they are flowering.
Developers do change things. Where I am now, the Council had planted Jacaranda trees in the street a few years ago, and they look lovely - except that a lot of the homes are being sold and developed into villa complexes. The trees are removed to allow deliveries of building materials, etc. then they are replaced when the job is finished. But, they are not replacing them with Jacarandas - each builder to his own - and we have a variety of young trees planted and away they go. The trees usually die through lack of care because of the water shortage.

Good night Tec and you too Diane - sweet dreams, no nightmares.

I'm off too. The twins are having a little party for their friends. I thought I wasn't required - well I hoped I wasn't - but my daughter asked me to come and help out. Six little 4 y.o.'s....aaargh!!

Goodnight Poms and good day Aussies and Persey if you look in:-))
