Good night Linda - sorry I didn't read your post in time. I'm actually going to sit and scrapbook the twin's birthday photos. They'll be coming around at the end of the week and they love looking at their "special books" as they call them.

Hi Allan - as I mentioned earlier it is raining here. A wind has also come up so it's staying in doors day today.

Goodmorning Allan, I don't blame you for refusing to return to the van, amasing how slap dash people used to be year's ago, Don't think half the stuff they allowed in school lab's year's ago or anywhere else for that matter is so easily available now (thank god).

Ah the good old days before Health and Safety, Diane.

Although I think that we have gone too far in the other direction now.

SueMaid Report 9 Aug 2010 23:42

Occupation health and safety is a relatively new concept. I remember my father telling me about my grandad who was a cobbler for years. Grandad worked for his BIL and he used to tan hides. Dad would tell me about him standing in a vat of tanning fluid wearing a pair of thigh high boots made of course from leather and a pair of leather gloves but can you imagine the fumes he would have breathed in. Grandad died of chronic emphysema - little wonder.

Allan - my OH would agree with you about OH&S going too far. Before he retired he would often say that he couldn't do his job properly because there were so many safety measures in place.

Good Morning Allan,

You had a very lucky escape with the Cymag, a less knowledgeable person might have died, or had a bad accident.

Well much as I should like to stay, I'm off to bed as I'm rather tired.
Enjoy your day Sue, Allan, and Berona who's on the next bus.
Sleep well Diane, and Linda,

Goodnight,
Tec.

Berona Report 9 Aug 2010 23:43

Well, I've arrived and read the last page (otherwise you would all be in bed again!). Couldn't join you in the conversation on science because I didn't do it at school.

It seems to have rained here. Ground all wet and the sky is covered in cloud, so could be more around. It is forecast, but I hope it holds off tomorrow. Dtr is coming to cut my roses and geraniums back for me.

Yes Allan as with so many thing's not just health and safety, one of the thing's I get on my soap box about is the way they have changed the children's act in England and in some area's of it You might as well hand your children over to them when they are born, to me it give's teenages who go off the straight and narrow an excuse to behave as badly as they want, a quote given to me 18yrs ago by a Social worker was ( the children's need's are paramount) , meaning what they wanted was more important than what a parent thought was best for them. Won't go into my experience of why I was told that but what I will say is I ended up fighting the system I'd turned to because of the ( at the time ) new children's act, one even some social worker's disagreed with.

Good night/morning to all. Hope you are all well and enjoying your life.

This is a very strange August for me. I am so used to having low temperatures and strong westerly winds in August, but the temps are still 16 - 19 and calm. I'm not complaining, although I wish that when it rains, we could get a good solid downpour which will help with the water shortage.

Diane, it seems to be the same here in Oz and yet the children who do need help and protection often seem to fall through the cracks.

My OH worked in the front office of a local High School and all the resources were channelled into the disruptive kids whilst those with any ability were left to fend for themselves.

Berona, same in WA. I put on an earlier post that yoday is forecast to be the last fine day until at least the end of the weekend.

I hope that the forecast is correct as, like you, we really need the rain.

Oh the comings and goings on this thread are just amazing. I start reading and think I will make a comment on that, then another subject comes up and I say to myself yes must say something... I get to the end and can't remember what I was going to say.

So this post is Much ado about nothing.

Berona Report 10 Aug 2010 08:20

Hello Perse - I suppose you have gone by now, but I haven't had much chance to talk to anybody for a while now. Hope you are well - your OH also.
I'm like you in that I read through all the posts and think of much I can say, but by the time I get to the last ones and can write my own, I've forgotten who I wanted to direct my post to - or what I have to say to them! It's far better if we can be here at the same time and just post short comments - and make a conversation of it.

Good morning Berona, are you still around?
The sun is making a feeble attempt at breaking through, but the forecast is for rain. Sad as it is the main school holidays and so many families are trying to enjoy summer.
I don't mind as today I have allocated for housework - I know, but it has to be done sometimes

Berona

Berona Report 10 Aug 2010 08:56

Linda! What a nice surprise. Yes, I'm around and wide awake at this hour - just decided to have honey-mustard chicken for tea. Already cooked - I only need to heat it up as I made it a couple of weeks ago and froze it in portions.
It has been wet outside here all day, although I haven't seen it coming down. Light (useless) rain again.
I won't stop you from doing your h****w**k. Happy cleaning!!

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 10 Aug 2010 09:01

I haven't actually started that yet Berona as it is breakfast time. I am eating a particularly tasteless muesli which OH bought in mistake for the type I normally get.

Hello to anyone who is about - I suspect you have all gone about your business and CC must be having a lie-in after being up half the night. Is there anything worse than a sleepless night?

I have had an email from Carole who sends her love to all. Carole isn't finding things easy at the moment.

I do hope you've done your housework Linda:-))
