Hello Sian, welcome to the thread. I am not an Aussie, but OH has a convict in his ancestry and I have lots of my side who emigrated to Victoria in the 1800's, so that counts.

We just post when we are around and someone will come along and answer. We talk "live" from about 10pm when the Aussies are having their morning

Hi Sian - Welcome to the thread - I'm a Welsh Pom, known as Tec, also have cousins in Australia, and have visited Oz many times. We talk about everything and anything on this thread. One of us is completely sane, one is absolutely barking, the rest of us are somewhere in between.

Linda, If you were a proper gardener, you would be out there picking your bean regardless of the weather. Allan would no doubt lend you his Paddington outfit if you were afraid of spoiling your designer outfit.

CC - Not only does my computer have voice recognition allowing me to send messages from half way up the stairs, but all the appliances in my cave also respond to voice commands. Curtains and blinds open and shut, lights go on and off etc etc. Even the dog responds.

Berona - Don't worry, I still have you earmarked as my PA on my staff list,
I'm in the process of reviewing staff positions, so if anyone interested has not applied, and feel they can meet my exacting requirements in the Baronial pile, please let me know.

Tec.

~~~~~ to everyone ,
Welcome to the thread Sian , I'm not from Oz either ...in fact I've never set foot outside the British Isles .
I hope you have all been having amazing and astounding results from the wills / probate searches . I've been very good indeed and spent the afternoon with my family history folders spread all over the kitchen table , adding the will notes I've found into there correct places .
It was pouring with rain all day and OH was constrained to the house by the weather so he has done all the housework , whilst I scribbled away ....lol
Tec .....I was going to apply for the position of curtain operative in your forth coming mansion but I guess if you have voice operated ones I'd be surplus to requirements ......lol
Hello Amand,
I haven't been with Ancestry very long, and went for the basic rate to see how I got on. I now need to upgrade to enable me to get better use of the site, re Wills etc. Not sure if I upgrade now if it will be to the end of my current subs, or if it's better to wait and upgrade when my subs run out. I might phone them as I would like to upgrade now really.
You can't just drift about the mansion opening and shutting curtains all day. But as I know you're a keen and knowledgeable gardener maybe you would consider taking over the 40 acres of landscaped gardens. There is a very nice heated potting shed to hide in the winter.
A heated potting shed !! sounds like luxury to me ......I'll jump at the chance Tec .....can I be the head gardener and have a few strong young men in my work force as I can't do much heavy lifting etc ?
If your wanting any wills / probate looking up just in box me and I'll see what I can find for you : ))
I did go and pick all of the beans Tec, I have lots of batching to do, but that can wait until tomorrow.
If you upgrade now Tec, they will do a pro rata so you won't lose out. i did that when I first upgraded to worldwide. i have been playing with the wills again tonight, it is amazing those I have found
Tecwyn
Tecwyn Report 13 Aug 2010 21:09
You can have as many strong young men to help as you like Amanda, but I won't put up with any shananikins in the potting shed you understand.
Glad you're having good results with the Wills Linda - I'm looking forward to that, might upgrade tomorrow.
What does "Batching" mean with regard to beans?
Thank you for your kind offer Amanda, but I think I will upgrade, been meaning to to for a while.
Tec.
Amanda2003 Report 13 Aug 2010 21:18
Shananikins Tec ? I'm sure I don't know what you mean , is that some sort of exotic Irish garden plant ? .....lol ......strong young men are required purely for their ability to dig boarders and heft about heavy loads ....well ...they are pleasant to look at as too ......lol
Linda ....pleased to hear your finding more wills to ponder .
As regards beans , we have harvested most of ours now and gathered some as seed for next year , it's been a good year for beans : ))
LindainHerriotCountry
LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Aug 2010 21:18
it is an Aussie term courtesy of Allan, he is always batching. It is just blanching them and freezing them in usable portions.
Mine are still growing like mad Amanda, but this is the frozen north after all
LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Aug 2010 21:25
Oh good, my renewal to GR has just gone through so you are stuck with me for another year.
i was worried that as my card had expired and been replaced by a new one that i wouldn't get the cheap rate for the continuous membership but luckily I had paid by Paypal so it didn't matter
Tecwyn Report 13 Aug 2010 21:43
I never get cheap rate for continuous membership, and I've just had a reminder.
I'm sorry to see Linda that you have fallen prey to these quaint Aussie alternative terms of the English language.
Amanda - A shananikin is a hardy Irish perennial with varigated foliage, and tubular bells - feed regularly with guiness - treat with respect as it's full of the blarney and spreads like mad.
I was in the garden with the dog - actually clearing up after the dog if you must know.
Hello - you lot are on early and I'm up early:-))
Welcome Sian - be sure to drop by again.
I'm going to a fund-raising afternoon tea today. A group of lovely ladies decided to raise some money for us. It's in a community hall down by the lake so as the day is likely to be sunny it should be very nice. All the cakes are homemade and the tables set with nice china and flowers so I'm really looking forward to it. I'll take mum as I know she'll enjoy it.
Too much information Tec.
It doesn't seem fair that they have the two tiers membership, but I have been here for so long, I still get the yearly rate
SueMaid
SueMaid Report 13 Aug 2010 21:48
Amanda - be very wary of working in Tec's mansion. He and the Duchess are very exacting and they really won't put up with any shenanikins. The maid with the hairy legs - Allan - is likely to lead us all astray.
I also get the yearly rate, Linda.
Good Morning Sue,
The cakes sound good, can I come, be on my best behaviour honest.
