Hello Amanda

I've not been in touch with the family yet as my niece phoned at 6.00pm and the my step sister had died at 4.00pm so I will do so later this morning.

My stepsister had a husband and grown up son.

Good Morning Allan,

I'm sorry to hear about your step sister. Although not close, that kind of news is always disturbing.

Amanda and Diane, Given that you both have Welsh blood in your veins, then I expect you both to be fluent in the language when you arrive at the mansion.

Goodnight Linda, sleep well,

Tec.

The only Welsh word I know ( and it's probably wrong anyway ) is Yackydah .............so I guess I'll have some swotting to do before I can gain access to the heated potting shed : ((

No, Sue, my stepmother died a couple of years after my father who died in 1983.

Charitably I would bescribe both mt stepmother and stepsister as rather large women, although my niece told me that my s/s was very recently diagnosed with cancer of the liver but she also had underlying health problems.

When OH and myself were in Perth recently for my great nephew's first birthday, I was talking with Howard (my s/s's son) and apart from a fall in the shower which prevented her also being at the party there was no talk of any poor health, other than the usual ailments.

:-)))) Amanda - Yackyda.

Allan - I think that even if you're not close to someone when you hear of them or anyone passing on it reminds us of our own mortality.

It sounds a bit complex for my tired tiny mind Tec .....lol

Perhaps I ought to get one of those learn whilst asleep tapes ....then I'll wake up one morning being able to speak fluent Welsh .

I'm off to bed now as the dogs are clammering to be let out into the garden .

Good luck with the tea party and speech Sue : ))

And Good night / good day one and all .

That's very true, Sue, and there have been more than enough this year!

For whom the bell tolls a poem
(No man is an island) by John Donne

No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thine own
Or of thine friend's were.
Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.

Allan

I do too Allan. Do we have poets and writers today who we can look to for words of wisdom? I'm not sure myself. Certainly we have people who make social comments that are relevant today but we still look back to earlier writers for guidance and wisdom. When our young people look up to sports stars and celebrities as role models I think we are badly in need of "working class heroes".
