Goodnight Linda,
sleep well.
Tec.

Sue - The Duchess has had a good day today thank you, so hopefully she will have a good night.

Allan, Your computer and I have much in common.

Amanda, I'm going to try a packet of loose tea - if I can find one - just to compare.

Tec.

You should still be able to find loose tea in most supermarkets Tec . They don't stock much ( when compared to bags ) , if we go into Norwich we always visit the " posh " tea shop and buy a couple of bags of something a bit special . I quite got into " Russian Caravan " tea at one point .

Allan Report 15 Aug 2010 23:13

Tec, there was a cooking show recently shown on Aussie tv where the cook visited various Asian countries to try the authentic local dishes.

The comment was made that tea-bags actually contain 'dust' left over from the processing of the actual loose tea.

I can't vouch for the varicity of the statement, but when tea bags have split the material seems much finer than the loose tea

Hello everyone - (well, those who are still here). I came straight to the last page to-day. Will read the others later - that's what makes me late!
Hope all are well and if they have not been well, hope they are better now. I see the Duchess has improved. So glad to know that Tec.

I'Ve never seen Russian Caravan tea Amanda, that's a new one.

Allan I always take the teabags out of the box they come in and put them into a tin - when the tin is empty there is always a residue of fine dust in the tin - I think tea bags are a by-product of "proper" tea really.

Good morning to you, Berona.

Did you have a good week end?

Hello Berona - lovely to see you as always.

I've heard of Russian Caravan but I don't think I've ever tasted it. There does seem to be a lot of dust in tea-bags. I also think that tea-bags have something in them that makes the tea look stronger than it is as it seems to go dark very quickly. Tea bags also stain the cups more than loose tea seems to.

Good Morning Berona,

How are you today? as well as you can be I hope.
Thank you the Duchess is better today.
It's surprising how fast the thread moves when we all get going, you need an hour just to catch up on what's been said today.

Hello Berona .... I hope you are well .

Tec .....the tea shop in Norwich is amazing . It is full of tea chests , with the name of whatever tea on the front . I recall one named " Poo Bong " ( I kid you not !! ) , we had some once but to be honest it was a few years ago and it obviously wasn't as memorable as it's name ....lol
Russian Caravan became my firm favorite , you can get it " smoked " or " unsmoked " ....I prefer the smoked as it's a fuller flavour .

I didn't expect to find a web site but I have , here is the link : ))

Edit to say ....Russian Caravan can be found under " House blends " .

I seem to remember a lovely tea shop in York called Whittingtons? or something like that. Lots of lovely tea-pots.

Amanda the te
ashop in Norwich sounds wonderful, I must look out for Russian Caravan.

There is a tea called Lapsang Souchong that is very nice, can't get that around here.

Sorry about broken sentences, it's this stupid cursor flying about all over the place.

I've put up a link on the previous post Tec .....and you could buy on-line if you do that sort of thing ? .

I'm sure your correct about tea bags and dust Allan and that they colour the dust to make it look better .

I've got all excited about the world of tea now ! ....lol

The tea shop site looks lovely, Amanda.

The tea-bag vs. loose tea site is interesting Allan and logical when you think about it. To be honest the "Mayan Cherry Frappe" sounded more interesting than a cup of tea:-))

Tea was a very valuable commodity once, kept under lock and key.
I hope I never get that tight lol.

I once saw a very old tea caddy in a museum which featured a "domestic" section. We were told by the guide that the lady of the household or the housekeeper, if trustworthy, would keep the key to the caddy. We have a little locking device on the pantry because the cream biscuits disappear at an alarming rate when the grandchildren visit:-))

I've got an old wooden box that belonged to my Nan , I believe it's a tea box as it has a lock ( but no key ) . Would they have been lined with anything ? as it looks as if it might have had a lead lining or at least some sort of metallic liner at some point in time ?

I stopped buying biscuits Sue a couple of years ago as I used to eat to many , OH gives me a frown if I buy to much " easy " food .......lol
