Yes Amanda, tea caddys were always lined to keep the tea fresh, usually with tin, or even the foil of the day. Some old tea caddys are quite valuable.

I thought it looked like it had had something coated on the insides . My one isn't much to look at , just a plain oblong box , with white inlay round the key hole ( ivory ? ) ........ it is precious to me because it belonged to my ones from the past .

I'm off now so good night and good day to one and all .

Berona Report 16 Aug 2010 00:56

Good night to those leaving us. I've been back over a few pages to read what you are all talking about. Have just got
back to the last page - but my computer has an aversion to turning pages - it takes a long time.
I had a quiet weekend, Allan. Nothing spectacular. A little more researching - catching up on recorded TV programs and only one visitor on Thursday - Dtr came and trimmed my roses and geraniums; weeded and fertilised.
Sue - if you buy your bulbs in a packet, it ususally suggests on the packet that you put them into your crisper for a few weeks.

Berona

Berona Report 16 Aug 2010 06:16

Has anyone heard from Carole? I don't seem to have seen a post from her for ages. Hope all is well.
Janet - good to see you posting, although you can't have a lot of time between working, studying and home duties. Don't over-do it, will you?
Beautiful and sunny here at the moment, about 18c - great for August - and no wind either. Makes me feel that Spring is really on the way.

Oh dear, that is a particularly nasty posting CC, very much done in public.

Tec is the most wonderful caring person and does not deserve this.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 16 Aug 2010 09:25

Good morning Berona. i know that Carole is having problems at the moment, but she is keeping in touch with Sue by email and when she does, Sue gives us an update on the thread.

I noticed that Diane was missing last night as well. I hope her headache is better, maybe she was just tired and went to sleep after work again.

Allan, my last PC started to become incredibly slow to start up, it was taking longer and longer. My son and daughters partner who both work in IT had separate looks at it and they both came to the conclusion that the hard drive was failing. That is why I bought a new one before it was too late. I made sure I had everything backed up on an external hard drive in case it failed before the new computer arrived

If I remember though your computer is not very old. Oh and also there has been a thread on the board in the last few days asking about the very same problem and lots of advice was given

edit, I have been looking for that computer thread on this board and on the others, but can't see it,so maybe the person has removed it,or maybe I am just blind

Hello Linda - we constantly back up everything on our external hard drive. I'm paranoid that I will lose my family tree information and photos. I do have the family tree on a memory stick as well and the important photos are on disc and a lot are printed and in albums. I gave my brother a memory stick with all the family tree info as well just in case.

OH's laptop has just gone in for treatment - luckily it's still under warranty. OH made sure everything on it was completely transferred to the hard drive before it went in.

Good evening Sue, I have my tree and photos backed up on sticks, cd's anywhere I can as well as having the external hard drive which backs the computer up every day.

It is a breezy morning here and I hope it won't rain, that was supposed to wait until tomorrow. We have a large French quilted bedcover which i wanted to wash and put outside to dry. The washer I have has a very large drum, but I have only just managed to fit it in.So cross your fingers for some sunshine for me

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 16 Aug 2010 10:09

We've had the best day for washing - sunny but very breezy. I had the washing back in by lunch time.

I've been putting my tree on Ancestry and I know that should the computer crash I can access it from another computer but I still make sure I have back-up. Too much work has gone into it.

I had a copy of mine on Tribal pages, but not open to the public. I suppose I should update it. the only problem was that it messed all the formatting up. i keep thinking of putting it on ancestry, but I can't bear the thought of all the contacts I will get, it is bad enough on here

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 16 Aug 2010 10:36

Sorry Linda - I just washed up. I have mine on Tribal too although I haven't looked at it for awhile. I've only recently put my tree on Ancestry and I've had 2 really good contacts. If it gets annoying then I'll change it to private. One contact is the son of an unknown child of OH's great grandmother. I've been able to give him so much information and the wonderful info. you found for me the other day. He is over the moon because I was able to give him photos.

I disappeared as well Sue because a neighbour popped in for a minute. Then I had to wrestle the quilt onto the rotary dryer in the garden.I could have done with OH's help but he goes to the gym on Monday mornings.
I then had to take the secateurs to a large bush bush which was impeding the dryer. I have been meaning to do that for a while, but normally keeping the clothes away from the edge is fine. The quilt is draped over the whole thing,so I have massacred the bush. I will have to tidy it up later once I can get to it properly

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 16 Aug 2010 19:46

An early good evening from me. Luckily it stayed dry today so the quilt is just about dry. It is currently hanging over the banister. I am really pleased because it has come through unscathed, I was a bit worried about washing it. It has a cream background and it certainly looks fresher.

I am going to watch Who do you think you are at 9pm, so will be back after that

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 16 Aug 2010 20:24

Good Evening Linda,

It was a glorious day here, sunny and warm, and very still, no wind. Glad you got your quilt dry successfully, even if you did massacre that poor bush in the process.

We had a busy day, had to go into town to do shopping, and take OH for her appointment at the Doc's. Town was seething with holiday makers which makes it difficult to park, but good for the local economy.

I am looking forward to Who Do You Think You Are this evening, it should be very interesting, as was last week.

Tec.

Good morning/evening. I hope I catch everyone as I'm off early this morning. I have a meeting to go to:-(

I'm glad you got your quilt dry Linda. Sometimes if we have a sunny windy day in winter I hang the doonas on the line just to freshen them up. Then I generally have them drycleaned at the end of winter as the weather warms up. We use a lightweight quilt for summer.

Spring must be on the way as we are starting to "wake up" in the household. We tidied up underneath the back pergola and OH gave the bbq a good clean. My daughter mentioned she was going to have the carpets cleaned and it started me thinking that I need to have some blinds cleaned and one repaired. Spring is in the air:-))
