I am sorry to have missed you Sue.

It wasn't a doona I was washing, we have them, but it is a variety of, well quilted cotton blanket really which goes on top of the doona. We have it because it looks nice during the day and if it is very cold, it gives extra heat. We usually fold it and take it off before we go to bed.

I'm still here Linda - I'll just be getting off earlier than usual.

I have a nice patchwork quilt that I won in a raffle that I put at the end of the bed. It's beautiful but not really in the colours I like. It's too bright for the room - not sure really what else I can do with it.

I found tonights WDYTYA very interesting. Amazing how far back Rupert Penry-Jones got with the Indian records. I couldn't understand why the letters from his Gt Gt Grandfather were still in India, and not with the family.

Good Morning Sue - I thought you had rushed into the room and rushed out again lol. Hope the meeting goes well.

Hi Tec. I wish I had all the resources that the celebrities have. We are behind with the series here in Oz but I do like watching the show. Who is Mr Penry-Jones?

Tecwyn Report 16 Aug 2010 22:25

Sue, Rupert Penry-Jones is a well known young British actor, son of actress Angela Thorne. I know him best from the spy series "Spooks"
He was also in a recent adaptation of "The 39 Steps" a good actor.

He is an actor in spooks Sue, but his mother is an actress called Angela Thorne, she was in To the Manor Born I think

We were amazed that those letters still existed as well tec

It is amazing how the celebrities just walk into National Library, Archives etc, and everything is there ready for them - if only lol.

Linda I hope he was allowed to bring those old family letters back with him, I expect he was.

Exactly, those WW2 records for a start. It takes months for lesser mortals to get hold of them and only if you pay and are next of kin, which he wasn't

SueMaid Report 16 Aug 2010 22:35

As OH loves Spooks I probably know who he is by sight just not his name. We've had some old episodes on lately. Although I've already seen them I still enjoy watching some of the episodes. I watched David Tennant the other day and last night watched Nigella Lawson although I'm not overly keen on her.

The church baptism books in India were in a terrible state, thank goodness the Mormons are trying to photograph them all

What amazes me is that they make a real meal of going backwards. I often think, give me Ancestry and the IGI and I will do it in five minutes. The newer series are trying to put more meat on the bone, to make better TV

Tecwyn Report 16 Aug 2010 22:48

I think it makes a difference if the subject appears to be actually interested, it isn't always the case. Penry-Jones was obviously interested, as was Monty Don last week.

The thing is Linda, we may not have access to the British Library etc, but we have got you, which is just as good.

I think Linda is better than the British Library:-)) I get annoyed with celebrities who are clearly bored or the ones who are judgemental about their ancestors. Also the ones who would like to have aristocrats in their tree and are plainly disappointed when they find this isn't so. On the other hand it's very sad when they find out about a tragedy or in the case of some a Jewish background where ancestors were in concentration camps.

lol Tec, I don't think so. I still have so much to do on my own tree.
I am taking a friend to the Huddersfield records office on Friday so we can look for some of our missing West Yorkshire records

I don't know if I've told this story before. When we were in Stockton on the last trip I called in at the register office and ordered 3 certificates. As they weren't busy they said they could do them straight away. So I chatted to one of the very helpful ladies and said that I had communicated a number of times with a lady in the office and she had been very helpful. So they went and got her and we spent the next half an hour chatting. She told me that if I ordered any more certificates she would come to Aus. and hand deliver them:-))

Well that's a kind offer Sue, did you order anymore? did she appear?

They are always really helpful at the Stockton office Sue. They went out of their way to help me find some graves, that was for someone I was helping in Australia as well
