This morning my daughter, and Grand daughter arrived unexpectedly, that was a wonderful surprise. They can stay 'till Friday, and it is so good to have them around. Grand daughter gets the results of her 11 O-Levels next week, and is a little pre -occupied. A good dose of sea air will do her good I hope.

What's all this talk of the Mafia - Berona surely not - I can't imagine you blasting away with a machine gun in a Turf War.

Colin - What did you do to deserve being sent to the country? maybe you are enjoying the change of scenery. How long will you be there?

Hello everyone : ))

Tec , how lovely that you have a surprise visit from your daughter and Granddaughter . I bet the Dutchess is as over the moon to have them to stay for a few days as you obviously are .

I hope your Granddaughter doesn't bite her nails away in her anxious wait for her exam results.....wishing her well : ))

Good Evening Amanda,

Yes the Duchess was very excited to see them - but immediately went into panic mode, while we always keep the freezer etc well stocked being so far from the shops, we don't usually have the things that younger people eat.......we prefer proper food lol. So I was soon despatched to the shops.

Thank you for your good wishes re exam results - we too hope Grand daughter does well, she takes her studies very seriously, and has worked hard. I think 11 subjects is far too much.

That is absolutely wonderful news Tec, i hope you enjoy yourself. Take your granddaughter out for a few trips to take her mind of it and spoil her. Your daughter and the duchess can spend some quality time together while you are out and talk about you lol

Hello Amanda, i have been to the allotment-today and have been freezing and pickling this afternoon

Tec what a lovely surprise for you and OH, good luck to your grand-daughter and I hope she get's the result's she want's. My eldest grand-daughter will be on tender hook's too as she is also waiting for her result's which are due on the 24th.

Hi Amanda how are you today, we started the day with a very heavy shower just as I was leaving for work but later in the day the sun came out and it was very pleasant the rest of the day.

Diane Report 18 Aug 2010 21:17

Hi Linda you appeared when I was posting, busy busy busy it is a wonder you have any space left in your freezer or do you have 2or 3 of them to accommodate all the thing's you freeze, mind you today is about storage space for all the pickled item's.

Good Evening Linda, and Diane,

That is a jolly good idea Linda, I may take Grand daughter out to lunch tomorrow. she is very quiet, but has a wicked sense of humour, and we have always got on well. I don't mind them at home talking about me - nothing that hasn't been said before lol.

It's a stressful time for the youngsters Diane, so glad I'm past all that.
We had exactly the same weather, a deluge at 10 am, then a beautiful day.

Thank you Linda I hope she does too and ( your welcome ) I sure did get wet, mainly the back of my jean's. Fortunately I have a spare pair at work and was able to change out of my wet one's and dry them.

The freezer is getting a bit full, in fact I have been trawling the internet today looking at new ones. the one we have is a chest one, but I am getting fed up of delving into the thing. I am looking for a very large upright one instead. It is in the garage,so it doesn't have to fit in. It can be as big as I can find one, the problem is the large ones are more expensive and it doesn't seem worth it. We shall have to see

Hi Tec, our deluge was at 6-50am just as I stepped outside to walk to work.

Hello Diane and Linda ,

Diane , I am very well thank you , apart from being all itchy as something has got a taste for me and I'm now sporting several itchy bumps on the forehead / face ..... it's getting beyond a joke ( even though the family keep poking fun at me ) , I'm getting paranoid about everything I see on the wing !
My daughter is also awaiting her GCSE results....a tense time indeed .
Linda , your much better than I , I leave OH to do most of the work on the allotment , he bought back masses of huge carrots the other day ( no carrot fly this year as we invested in Enviromesh and it's certainly paid for itself : )))
The sun was shining first thing this morning but it clouded over more or less as soon as I got up .

Diane

Diane Report 18 Aug 2010 21:31

Linda, maybe you can find a second hand ( shop freezer ) on the internet.

Diane, must have been your deluge that we shared - thanks :))
Sorry you got caught in it, at least I was watching through the window.

Linda we have a chest freezer, it is a pain hanging upside down looking for things I agree.

I leave the digging to OH Amanda, he likes that sort of thing. The old gentleman who has the other half of the allotment has a rotovator, (he has willed it to OH), it is still incredibly hard work pushing that though.

I just weed, water and pick things. I won't let him in the fruit cage because he prunes things to within an inch of their life.

I don't really want to buy a second-hand freezer Diane because I want an energy efficient frost free one. i have been looking at the new ones on the Ebay shops, but i need to do more research yet

Hi Amanda, good luck to your daughter and I hope she get's the result's she want's. My employer's mum is like yourself, she dern't go down the garden certain time's of the day as the mossy's get her, infact if it bite's it like's her, me I'm too salty so they leave me alone.

It look's like we are all waiting on tender hook's for the 24th when the result's will be announced.

I'm just going to disappear for a short while, won't be too long.

Amanda2003 Report 18 Aug 2010 21:46

Linda ....we have a rotovator . OH has a back that just " goes " every now and then and I'm no use at digging or hoeing etc as I have a dodgy pelvis . My main jobs are getting the plants going in the greenhouse , planting them out and " finger weeding " as I crawl about all over the plot ( thankfully my knees are still ok ....lol ) .

We have a fridge freezer in the kitchen and a small chest freezer under the stairs ( that one is starting to bulge and the sweet corn hasn't been harvested yet ! ) .
I'm going off line for a bit as daughter wants a go on here .....back in awhile : ))

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 18 Aug 2010 21:51

I hope your daughter gets the results she's hoping for Amanda, and your Grand daughter Diane. Good Luck to them all.

Linda, I hired a rotovator when I came here, but found it too hard, and eventually went back to the old way of digging with a fork. This garden was thick in brambles and raspberry canes.

Just think of all the jam you could have made Tec,although you would have had to eat it all by yourself of course

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 18 Aug 2010 22:03

Yes Linda we could have made vast ammounts of jam, but as you say it would have lasted for ever with only me eating it - though I could have started a cottage industry. Me in a jam again lol.
