Just arrived again, so will come back later.
Hope all the students are pleased with their results.

I keep missing people on here, oh well, I shall just talk to myself.

"how are you today?"
"Fine thank you"

Berona

Berona Report 24 Aug 2010 09:41

I'm fine too, thanks, Linda! I knew that if I came back later, I would find someone here (or you have been, and not long gone). Don't worry about talking to yourself - you can usually get some good answers that way!
We've had a bright sunny day with temps a couple of degrees higher than usual, but there has been some wind and that makes it feel cold, especially after the sun goes down. Took my car for a run and enjoyed the drive very much.

Ah, there you are. I went away, but have popped in before going away again.
Sunshine and showers here, or to be more accurate sunshine and torrential downpours. having seen the forecast for the next few days, I have sent OH into the garage to build an ark

Berona Report 24 Aug 2010 11:45

Just popping in again. Still no answer on who our next Prime Minister is. Oh well, I can wait while they have their meetings to sort it out.

Hope all is well with everyong. I'm OK too. Talk again later - later for some of you, tomorrow for others. 'bye!

LindainHerriotCountry Report 24 Aug 2010 12:08

Oh. I have just missed you again. I have been doing the housework, a necessary evil.

OH is sorting the garage out in preparation for the arrival of the new freezer tomorrow.
Now this is crackers. When I went to look at the freezers, i saw a couple that were suitable,so I asked the assistant if they were in stock. While she was checking her computer, just as an aside she asked me where I was going to put it. When I said in the garage, she told me that I couldn't. It seems that when they changed from CFC's, all the new freezers can't be put in cold conditions. If they are, the compressors can stop working in the winter and the guarantee is invalid.

There is only one make, Beko, which can be put in a garage or outhouse.I would think that half the people in the country have their freezers in the garage,so they are all going to face the same problem when they come to replace them.

One of the other retailers had some, so I was able to see them.
It is just a little bit smaller than the one I wanted. I came back and hit the internet, but the one I saw is the largest in the range. I shopped around for prices and ordered one.

That is another thing to grump about. They all advertise free delivery, but when you click to see when it can be delivered, they give you a choice of days, but the free delivery is always weeks down the line. If you want it any earlier, you have to pay a delivery charge, what a con.

Hello all,

Linda, you should take the salesperson and stick him/her in the freezer and start singing freeze a jolly good fellow for misleading you :0))

Just a very quick visit to ley you all know that tomorrow (Wednesday WA time) I will nt be on the boards as OH and I have an early start to Perth (7.00am) for my step sister's funeral

Take care all

Today we had thunderous black clouds rolling in off the sea, and moving swiftly over. Just one short sharp shower. The sea was very rough, and looked like a winter sea. It is also quite windy, and tomorrow is supposed to be very wet.........so more DIY!

My Grand daughter did very well in her exams, so she is a happy bunny, and we are all very proud of her. Now she has a week to relax before starting sixth form.

Linda, I have never heard of this business of not putting freezers in garages etc. Lots of people keep them in the garage, especially those with limited space in the kitchen. We had our last fridge/freezer for twenty years, an Electrolux, the freezer part began to do odd things, so we bought another from Argos who were doing free delivery on Hotpoint products, although it's not actually Hotpoint anymore.

Allan I hope you and OH have a safe journey to Perth and back.

Hello Berona, Good to see you popping in and out, hope you are as well as you can be today.

Tec.

Good morning Tec. I'm so pleased that your granddaughter has done well. I take it that she is around 16/17? Here in Oz the school children take their Yr. 4 exams when they are about 16 and they can leave school at this point or continue onto Yr. 6 when they sit final exams which we call Higher School Certificate. They can apply for a University rating if they intend going onto tertiary education.

The wind is blowing here again. I hate it. It makes me headachy and irritable.

I have another morning tea to go to this morning. The hospital is putting it on as a thank you for a donation of special beds. I once read that the Queen only eats small amounts when dining at various functions otherwise she would be enormous. I wouldn't put myself on the same level as the Queen but I also find myself just nibbling at the various functions I have to attend.

Hello everyone .
Allan , safe journey to you and Mrs Allan .

Well done to your Granddaughter Tec , I'm pleased that she is pleased with her results . My youngest picked up her GCSE results today . 4 Bs , 2 Cs and a few lower grades . She is off to sixth form next month and is happy with her results ( as indeed we are ) .

It's been windy here today Sue . I keep saying that this " summer " is putting me very much in mind of the one in 1987 ( when we had the devastating storm in October ) ..... I do hope we are not in for a repeat .

Linda ....good luck with the freezer ( our little chest one is in the space under the stairs ) .
~~~~~ to Berona : )
Good Morning Sue,
My Grand daughter is 16, she will now go to sixth form for two years, and then take her A-Level exams. If she gets the required grades she may be accepted for the university she will already have applied to. University places have been drastically reduced this year, and I think it will become increasingly more difficult to get a place. Looks like only those with the highest grades will make it.
I hope you enjoy your morning tea invitation. I think it would be wise to follow the Queens example, and just nibble, in order to maintain your sylph like figure. Although I notice Her Majesty has become rather wide across the beam lately, maybe she couldn't resist, and had too many nibbles lol. I wonder if that's High Treason to say such a thing - oh well, a cell in the Tower will be peaceful at least.
Good Evening Amanda,
Well done, and congratulations to your daughter - I'm glad she is happy with her results, and it's so good to see them do well after all the stress and hard work. I hope she enjoys sixth form.
I also hope we don't get any big storms. Being right on the coast we are in the front line with Atlantic storms, sometimes it's frightening when we get a bad one.
Hello Amanda - I've just been having a look at your beautiful garden. The sunflowers are enormous. Did you grown any this summer?
Your daughter has done well - good for her.
Hello Tec .
I'm particularly proud of my daughter for doing well in photography as it's a subject that seems to follow in my family , she has a good eye for a subject to snap .
I'm not right on the coast ( about a mile inland ) and that's onto the North sea , I bet a full on storm off the sea in your area is something to behold indeed !
Amanda2003 Report 24 Aug 2010 21:57
Hello Sue , and thank you : )) she is a happy bunny at the moment ...lol
I only grew a few Sunflowers this year and that was mainly to please my Granddaughter , Daisy , she does so love to get out in the greenhouse with me and potter ....lol......they become "her" plants and she keeps an eye on them , which is all an opportunity to teach her the cycle from seed back to seed again : )
Gardening can teach the little ones such a lot. I'm thinking of letting the grandkids grow sunflowers this summer just not sure where to put them:-))
Amanda I think it is so important to teach the young ones how plants/seeds work. Not many seem to take time to do that now. When I was young I had a Grandfather who grew the most amazing vegetables and flowers. I spent hours "helping", but it taught me a lot, without my realising it. He was also very knowledgeable about nature, birds, wild animals, trees etc. Taught me how to spot a hare in a field when nobody else could see it. These things stay with you for life. I often wonder who takes time to teach todays children such things.
Amanda2003 Report 24 Aug 2010 22:13
Sue .....go for it ....lol..
There are quite a lot of different types of Sunflower these days . It isn't always about which one is biggest / tallest ( but boys do get competitive ).
A border against a fence or wall is always good but the shorter ones can fit into a mixed boarder very nicely I think . I've even grown Sunflowers in large pots before ( but they like a bit of liquid feed then ) .
There are some lovely deep red sunflowers but I can't recall the name off hand .
Happy gardening : )))
Amanda2003 Report 24 Aug 2010 22:19
Tec ..... you are so right . Sadly a great many folk , through no fault of their own , have become divorced from " real life " by which I mean the growing of things , it's as if the fingers have slipped off the pulse of what it is really about .
My OH takes our Grandson up the allotment to " help " ( he came back laughing last time as William had spent most of the time chasing grasshoppers.....lol )......but he had helped a bit with the hoeing and dug up some spuds .
Your Grandfather sounds like he was a wise old fellow , with a sharp eye ....... I bet he taught you loads of things , without you even realising at the time .
