Linda, When we had our new fridge the delivery man said to leave it to settle for about 4 hours, but best to check in the book I suppose. Then you'll have the fun of filling it from your home grown produce I hope.

Amanda....Do let me know if you discover what they are, sounds interesting. We get winberries off the mountain, like smaller blueberries, the plants look like the heather.

Diane it is sad when elderly people have to go into a home for their own safety - my mother always said she never would, and thankfully she didn't have too.

Lol Linda.....your not scoffing at books are you ?......it would help if I could find my glasses to actually see my quaint books : ))

Gawd knows what they where but they did taste nice and if I go back in a few days to gather some I'll be sure to get a leaf this time , then I can identify what it actually was : )) lol

I already have the chest freezer full of stuff Diane, in fact the new freezer is probably slightly smaller. I just want an upright one because it is easier to get into, especially when it is so full.

Thank's Amanda, I did all that a ( natural daughter ) would have done, I'm not sure but before you came on the thread I may have spoken about this aunt before, I had some problem's with her over misunderstanding's, ( I put down to age ) and this caused me a lot of upset about 2yrs ago, if you want I will pm you about it as I don't want to post a big post on here, ( bore everyone ) in other word's.

Hello all

Wearing my glasses - and I have found Bullaces: A wild species of plum, the tree or bush differing from that of the common plum, chiefly in its dense bushy form, its spiny or prickly branches and its smaller leaves. The fruit is round of damson colour about the size of a cherry, and very sour.

The next bit I like: In France they are gathered and perserved in brandy like plums and cherries. They are also made into a special liqueur called Prunelline.

From my Law's Grocer's Manual (4th edition) 1950 - so not that old.

Cheers Persey

Congratulations to your granddaughter Tec and to your daughter Amanda all well done.

Am glad you are getting plenty of sleep Berona - and are feeling better.

Colin - I have taken to drinking McDonald's espresso coffee because a) it is not unlike plunger and I have it black and b) it is free. We often get a McCafé coffee which we pay for and every fifth one is free with a coffee card. However, just this week OH was getting an ice-cream from them and the person serving said would you like free 'seniors' coffee - my husband said thank you for recognising me as looking old. So now we are into free senior's coffees I get one as well - and they did not even ask for his goldcard this morning.

Tec - My dad was a survivor - he went bush during the depression and lived off the land. He lived in a little ramshackle corrugated iron hut and he had a feral cat to keep his feet warm at night. He would eat wild birds, turkeys, pheasants etc and grow his vegetables to go with them. He used to have two freezers (in his garage - plenty of room didn't drive) for all his veg and there was just the two of them then. He even had a swan in one of them - that lasted us all a few meals.

My daughter interviewed him for an assignment when she was at Teachers' Training College and we have his story filed in his drawer in the filing cabinet.

Why oh why, me oh my, - the other day our builder backed his trailer down the drive and went over the grass verges digging a few tracks in it.
Today it is hosing down and young man who was replacing my laundry cupboard door (under the tub) backed down drive in his van and instead of keeping to brick pavement went into wet sloppy tracks and got stuck.
As Captain Mainwaring would say "Stupid Boy!" - There was only me home making curtains for Rentals - could not get him out of quagmire so his boss had to arrive with truck and hawl him out - now there is an even deeper ditch in the grass. Have texted OH not to back down drive with his trailer when he gets back tonight. LOL

I don't think I would want to be imprisoned in the tower Tec - looks awfully cold and a very medieval practice. Arrows might come firing through the window from the cross-bows and you might get fenestrated. Cave dwelling is much better and a good place for Marmite to hibernate to in the winter.

Well done Perse, I goggled for Bullace and it does sound like the fruit Amanda was talking about.

It sounds like you need a wider drive to accommodate those who can't back in a straight line.

It is nice that you do have your dad's story. I liked to get mum talking about the old days, it was fascinating. I think as we are growing up, we don't consider our parents to be real people who have had interesting lives. They are just our parents who are put on this earth to provide for us, run a personal taxi service and stop us from doing all the wonderful things other peoples parents let them do.

Everyone was gone by the time I arrived to-day. I slept twelve hours. I remember waking when it was barely light, but must have gone off again within seconds.

Perse - "fenestrated"?? that's not in my dictionary.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 25 Aug 2010 11:32

I googled Berona
Fenestrated
— adj
1. architect having windows or window-like openings
2. biology perforated or having fenestrae

or from the medical dictionary
Function: adj
: having one or more openings or pores > fenestrated bllod capilliaries fenestrated catheter>

I don't think tec has a catheter, but you never know

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 25 Aug 2010 11:32

Hello Berona,

Good Evening to you - I think - I had a surprise to see you there, it must be nearly your bedtime. I think Perse's word fenestrated may come from the French for window, fenestre, and the Welsh, ffenestr. Maybe Perse was playing with words - I expect she will tell us.
