I had better look busy because OH will be back from the allotment soon, can't have him catching me idling!
In my defence, I have made some veg soup for lunch and blanched even more green beans for the freezer.

See you tonight.

Bye - hope the freezer arrives soon.

Hello Perse,

I like the story of your Dad surviving the depression. Very interesting.

I watched a programme on tv yesterday about a couple from the UK looking for property in and around Aukland. Among other places they went to Devonport, it looked very nice, and the houses were beautiful. They also went for a jog up Mount Victoria, the view of Aukland from the top was magnificent.
I couldn't believe how Aukland has changed. It looks a very vibrant modern city, and the nightlife looked interesting too.
The lady in the film was taking a job as an Occupational Therapist at a centre for children with severe physical problems in Devonport.
It was good to see Aukland again.

Once upon a time Devonport was a relatively cheap place to buy a property - you mostly ventured there by Ferry Boat. The Bridge was built but that still meant a fair distance from Takapuna. Then the North Shore grew and grew and Devonport prices doubled overnight and the cost of purchasing a house there has sky rocketed it has become a lot more desirable place to live... The Ferry Boat's are quicker - they have these QuickCat things that skim over the water and it is has gone from a quite place to a thriving cafe and shopping area.

Yes Tec I was playing with fenestrated - the windows of the tower being very narrow and the arrows piercing or making one become perforated. I actually believe tower windows (slits) of castles are constructed in such a way with angles etc that an arrow would rebound off them. Besides we don't want an arrow hitting your tin undies - think of the clanging that would make.

You are having very extensive cat naps Berona - could here you purring from here.

My dad would have been making jam in no time from Bullaces - he would always remind me to go and get damson plums from my friends (she did not bother with them) for him to make jam. He used to make a lovely jam roly poly as well. Another time I had to go to Devonport to someone's place where their quince tree had toppled over and collect all the fruit so he could make quince jelly.

No room really for a wider drive Linda - unless we did away with the lawn on either side of the brick strips and down the middle. Maybe that can be the next house owner's worry.

I remember a comedy sketch where someone stuck gold fish in the catheter bag. The other one was where the mate of the patient stuck apple juice in a clean urinal bottle - and the nurse said that looks very cloudy - and the patient said oh does it? Tell you what I will run it through again and drank it. (they were both the same comedian but can't remember who it was)

Hello Berona , Linda , Tec and Perse

Perse and Linda , well done in solving the " mystery" of the Bullaces , I had found my glasses and useing a quiant book ( trees of Europe ) I had located the Bullace as well ....lol......I hadn't realised just how many trees fell into the " Prunus " family . We where eating the fruit straight off the tree as we walked around the ruins of Burgh Castle ( an old Roman castle just a few miles from my home ) , they where quite sweet to taste , I might do back to gather some in a few days .

Persephone Report 25 Aug 2010 13:41

I think I might try Prunelline - it is not a liqueur that I know. Probably can't buy it here (does not come up on google nz) and I will just come home with my usual - Drambuie.
Well it is way past midnight here and I should be in bed, himself has been snuggled down for ages whilst I have been reading in the lounge. Don't think I will sleep for 12 hours though - back to heat gunning tomorrow getting the backing from the tiles off the floor followed by a free coffee.

Thank you for the interesting search Amanda.

Night from this Kiwi
have a nice afternoon Poms
~~~~~~~~~~~to all my Aussie friends.
Goodnight Perse,
sleep well,
Tec.
Linda - Are you still waiting?
LindainHerriotCountry
LindainHerriotCountry Report 25 Aug 2010 15:24
It wasn't me who discovered the Bullace Amanda, it was Perse,
The freezer arrived about 2pm, but it has to stand and then be switched on and get down to temperature before I can transfer the things into it.
I am dubious as to whether I can get all of the stuff from the chest freezer into it, I will just have to wait and see.
We're all off to Linda's to help her eat everything that won't go in the new freezer........there's bound to be something nice there.
What is spooky Tec?
LindainHerriotCountry
LindainHerriotCountry Report 25 Aug 2010 21:32
You are quite correct, it won't all go in, I am going to have to run two freezers for a while.I didn't realise how much soup there is in there.
i found some new plastic containers in Lakeland a while back which will be a far better size and fit in better,so I will purchase some more of them for the future
Tecwyn
Tecwyn Report 25 Aug 2010 21:35
Only that you posted at precisely 21:22 as did I.
I have been dutifully working on my tree - I don't know how much further I can get really. I have researched mine, and OHs lines, and am in mid 18th Century on them all.
I expect now you will all tell me that you're all back to 1066 now.
I hadn't noticed the time Tec.
I am wading through the wills, there are lots of mine from one branch,so I am transcribing them. I only have one line of OH's back to the mid 1600's. Other lines are stuck at earlier dates and i can't get any further back
Tecwyn
Tecwyn Report 25 Aug 2010 21:44
I must get cracking on Wills - and I do need to send for more certs. I also want to crack a few mysteries, like why did someone serving with the Canadian Forces die in 1915, but in Canada?
Things like that interest me.
They might have been home on leave, or been invalided back.
I need to order another death cert and hope it will be third time lucky for this woman. I am running out of options for finding her.
Tecwyn
Tecwyn Report 25 Aug 2010 21:56
That's very frustrating Linda, so far I've been lucky with my certs, they've all been correct, including the one that was pure hunch.
I sometimes think our ancestors hide from us. Find me if you can sort of thing.
With this one, she was my mothers grandmother and the timing was from mum, but I managed to find another bit of information which put it later than mum had said. The one i am going for now may be a bit too late. it is annoying that the GRO have taken the reference checking facility away because being a widow I could have specified the husband,so have got some money back if it was still the wrong one
Tecwyn
Tecwyn Report 25 Aug 2010 22:10
That is annoying of the GRO - I hope your next shot is successful. Pity there isn't a system on here or elsewhere to give details of incorrect certs we have, in case they may be of interest to others.
