LOL Diane , I don't type very fast and I only use one finger ( which drives my daughter potty as she can use all of hers and types like a demon...lol )
I'm SO pleased to hear that your Dad has had a change of heart , it will be a great weight off your mind to know that he is being helped .

Croatia , Croatia , so good you said it thrice.....lol.....I hope you have a brilliant holiday LInda and that your phone gets switched over without any hitches .

Pineapple jam sounds a bit strange to me Tec .

Thanks Linda. I'm still going through FamilySearch. I knew that some of my ancestors went from Boston Spa/Thorp Arch to Castleford but I haven't spent that much time on that branch. Is Pontefract nearby because I think some may have drifted there as well.

I well remember pineapple jam as a child. Mum bought it in big tins. I haven't seen it for years.

Pineapple jam is delicious Amanda.

Sue your knowledge of that part of England is about as good as mine lol.

Although my geography is normally quite good, I'm wracking my brains as to exactly where Croatia is?
is it what was part of the old Yugoslavia Linda?

Hello all

You are a load of gas-bags. :0))

So many posts since I was last on! I've only skimmed through them but congratulations (belatedly) to all whose realatives were successful in their various exams and I wish them all the very best for their future studies and their future lives.

On Wednesday heading into Perth the traffic was at it's usual crawl when we saw aperfect piece of 'road rage' that totally backfired on the guy who started it.

Still trying to sort my email out to send the photos from Nannup.

Congratulations on your job Janet, you obviously impressed them. We would have written a reference for you if you had asked,
We offered to write one of Sue's speeches, but she turned us down, so maybe you wouldn't have wanted the reference lol

Hello Janet - lovely to see you. Good for you getting a permanent position.

Allan - we want to know about the road rage!!

Goodnight Diane - sleep well.

Linda - thanks for the info. I've found that 5 of the children of one family were baptised on the same day. I take it that was common.

Helloooo Amanda.. nice to meet you :-)

LindainHerriotCountry Report 26 Aug 2010 23:05

It was common Sue, if they moved around they may not have bothered and then may have come across a new priest who rounded them up.

I was looking for this

'1783 stamp duty A stamp duty of 3d was placed on all entries and registers causing many families not to have children baptised. Paupers were exempt. Many entries of 'pauper' were made by the minister when parents would not pay. The duty was repealed in 1794'

that is why many didn't bother at that time.

Plus some of OH's were secret papists at a time when they were not supposed to be. They had their children baptised in secret, but they would be rounded up to have them done in the C of E as well

Hi Janet

OH and I had to go to Pinaroo on Wednesday for my step sister's funeral. What a beautiful spot.

Amanda, gory details. The closer you get to Perth the slower the journey. At this particular point there are three lanes of traffic. As usual some move and some are jammed so people cut across lanes to try to keep moving. Now WA drivers (and I nclude myself( have to be the worst in the nation. They think that signalling is not notifying others of an intention but a demand that you give way to them.

This particular car indicated to change lanes to the right and immediately tried to cut off a mini-bus. The bus driver would not let him in and blocked the car between the two lanes. There was the usual finger gesticulation form the firat driver and a few choice phrases.

What the car diver couldn't see, but waht we could was that the bus was full of Rugby players judging by the size of the guys. The retaliated in the same manner with much arm and finger waving and as the traffic in all lines was stalled they started to open the door of the bus.

Fortunately for the diver of the car, traffic sarted moving again and he cut across thr three lanes of traffic befroe the bus passengers got to him.

It made for an amusing ten minutes in a traffic jam!!
