If it wasn't so cold at night now, you could always pitch the tent in the garden, that would an adventure - alternatively, you can use the spare bedroom!.

Polishing the furniture will not be wasted effort - when you dispose of it someone will appreciate what a houseproud lady you are.

Actually the furniture looks much improved, but OH is still hankering after some new stuff.
Everything is back in now, but remind me not to do that sort of thing again on such a hot day, I am glowing gently (ladies do not perspire)
The carpet looks OK, but I preferred the other one. We hadn't actually intended to change this carpet, it was supposed to be the stairs. The story is far too long to tell, but suffice to say that it is all OH's fault

Tecwyn Report 1 Sep 2010 17:23

Of course it's OHs fault - who else would it be? he's the only male in the house.
You can hardly blame the man next door.

I deleted, posted twice.

It has been very warm here too - jkust saw a swallow, so they haven't all gone yet.

Water is back on thank goodness.

It was over rated so I came back

I thought the Sea of Tranquility would be nice.

Dusting your cap and gown off - why does a four pint carton of milk taken out of the freezer melt much quicker if placed in cold water than it does if just left at room temperature?

Just thought I'd ask.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 1 Sep 2010 22:06

because water has a much higher specific heat capacity than air

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 1 Sep 2010 22:09

Oh thanks...........what?

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 1 Sep 2010 22:18

Very over simplified (so not strictly correct). Water being a liquid is denser than air, it has more molecules. Each time a molecule touches the side of the milk carton, the heat in the water transfers to the milk to raise it's temperature, Air has fewer molecules so touches the side less often, also as soon as the water molecules give up their heat to the carton, the water becomes denser and will sink, allowing more molecules to touch the side.
Also specific heat capacity (don't ask) means that water can hold a large amount of heat energy without raising its temperature much,so the reverse applies, it has a lot of heat energy stored inside it, which it can pass on to the milk to raise its temperature, or something like that anyway.
If any one has any better ideas fell free to add them.

I hadn't really gone to the moon. OH had wanted to watch a programme about churches BBC4, but he missed it because of a phone call,so we watched it on i player on the computer

Thank you for explaining that - now I understand........I think.

I bet you've got Einstein in your tree lol

Hello Tec and Mrs Einstein. Actually I did understand what you wrote Linda - I was going to add more to the theory but I didn't want to appear smarter than you.....I'm fibbing:-))

We're very pleased for our son at the moment. He had to do a power point presentation at uni yesterday and although he worked hard and knew exactly what to do he was very nervous. He rang us at lunchtime to tell us that he had done very well and his lecturer told him later than his presentation was the best so far and that he sounded confident and knowledgeable. He said that a number of students asked really good questions and he was able to answer them well.

It’s raining here although not overly cold. I don’t mind – the garden needs a good dowsing of water.

Congratulations to your son Sue,

Feel free to knock the theory down and explain it properly, my brain is addled these days

I think Tec has been abducted by little green men

Good evening Linda and Tec

Good morning Sue, congratulation's to your son for doing well.

My letter for teacher for being late :)

I have been watching Crime watched Solved and then had my tea so that is why I'm late.
One of the crime's solved was interesting to me because I used to live next door to the father of Francesca Bimpson when he was still liveing at home with his mum and twin brother.

Good Morning Sue,

That Linda is so clever - I wish I were.

Good for your son, it's never easy doing a presentation to ones peers. That experience should boost his self confidance, and prepare him for future similar things. I hope he continues to do well there.

We are having fantastic weather at the moment, sunny and warm.

Tecwyn Report 1 Sep 2010 22:52

I think I would quite like to be kidnapped by little green men.

Hello Diane - Who when he's about is Francesca Bimpson? is he famous, or infamous? anyone with a name like that should be famous lol.

Tec.

Diane Report 1 Sep 2010 22:53

Tec you and I seem to be haveing the same weather, brilliant isn't it, be it a bit late as usual the kid's are returning to school.

Linda I think your explanation of why milk react's the way it does in water as to the way it react's in the air is very well put and if your brain is addled then mine has gone into retreat as on a good day I still could not have given as good an account as you have done, ( then again I'm thick ) lol.
