Just looking in......

Was not only unplugged yesterday but also dismantled - so now I am altogether again but in the dining area - computer on a card table. Spent the morning vacuuming up plaster (out of the gib board) that was all over the lounge floor where he had been cutting it. (the floor area in there is the largest otherwise car would have to come out of garage and concrete floor can be hard on the old knees) He had a mat/drop sheet and newspaper down on the floor but the darned stuff just goes everywhere - even when you are vacuuming it can be elusive and pings off in another direction.

There are a lot of cruel people in this world Diane he was vindictive others are just plain idiots that have given no thought to the consequences. Two young chaps here put a little girl in the washing machine and spun her and then hung her on the line and spun her around on that. (she died - but what sort of life would she have had if she lived). The abusive cycle in this family was repetitive and the mother ignored what went on. We have far too many infant deaths in this country - resulting from abusive and more often than not alcoholic relationships.

Other than that it was a lovely day here yesterday and I got the mowing done and I am sure it was the same pesky blackbird following me around. The freesias are out and smell lovely - they always manage to survive the weeds. It was meant to be our first day of spring tra la on the 1st and I had been sneezing every morning for over a week in readiness for it.

Today it is overcast and prone to showers of rain so my frolicking around in green pastures will have to remain on hold.

Himself broke a crown on his tooth last night - said he did it eating his dinner - I said we had nothing crunchy or with bones - turns out it was the fork he ate with and the fork looks rather disgruntled as well now. He has gone off to our ACC (Accident compensation) people to see if he can make a claim as the crowns are so expensive here.

~~~~~~~~~~~to all those that have not been around in awhile.
Hello again, everyone. My apologies for disappearing this morning, but the inspectors arrived beford I could put up a second post.
This complex of 14 villas/townhouses was built by a building company which has since 'gone out of business' although they are still building elsewhere but under another business name; and after a complaint about a roof almost caving in, we engaged a company to inspect everything and claim on the building insurance. The insides were inspected a year ago and reported on, but the rooves have to be inspected by a 'roof engineer' - that's what to-day's inspection was.
They went up and walked over the tiles, repairing any as they went. Nobody has been up through the manhole as yet - I suppose that will be another 'expert'.
Hello everyone - I'm up early this morning. A consequence of going to bed too early. Obviously my body says after a certain amount of sleep you shall have no more. Personally I don't think that's fair - especially as it's cold and wet outside.
Good Morning Sue,
You are up early today - as you say not fair when it's cold and wet outside. I hate waking up too early, because I have to get up if I'm awake as I never go back to sleep and just get more uncomfortable.
Today has been another glorious day weather wise, hot and sunny, 21 C which is warm enough for me. I spent the day chopping sticks for the fires in the winter. I have a woodstore in the garden to store them. Surprising how they go down once we start having fires. Some winters here we have hardly had a fire all winter, but last year was so cold we had a fire nearly every day.
Did you manage to have lunch with your mum?
Tec.
SueMaid Report 2 Sep 2010 21:15
Hello Tec - your day sounds wonderful. No I didn't get there in time for lunch but I did spend a couple of hours going through some old photos and making sure we named everyone in the photos. Luckily mum has a good memory and remembered everyone. We were left wondering who took some of the photos. It prompted me to think about putting the name of the photographer on all our photos but that would be a mammoth job.
Sue that was a nice time you had with your mum going through the photo's. My mum used to like to do that on my visits, trouble was she inevitably would spot something that would upset her, then there were tears.
We have some old photo's in frames of our ancestors, some taken around 1910 -30. So I've printed labels and stuck them on the reverse side so that when they are passed on my daughter will know who's who, and the dates.
SueMaid Report 2 Sep 2010 21:40
I've done that too Tec. I have several very nice photos in frames. One is of my paternal great grandparents with their very large family - my grandfather is on his father's knee. Another one is of my paternal grandparents in their front garden and my grandmother is pregnant with either my dad or my uncle. I received a copy of this photo two years ago when visiting my uncle near Leeds. Out of the blue he showed me this tiny photo and was quite happy for me to borrow it and have it copied. He wanted me to have the photo but it didn't seem right taking it out of his house and back to Australia - it belongs with the only surviving member of that generation and then ultimately my cousin.
I really like the old photo's Sue - amongst others, we have one of OHs mother and three aunts, all as children, taken with their mother and father (OHs grand parents) in 1911. Dressed in their Sunday best, and all looking very serious. I had it blown up and put it in a black laquered oval Victorian frame - it looks wonderful.
Recently a contact on GR sent me a group photo of my maternal ancestors taken outside the family house I sent you the website about. I was overjoyed to get that as I had none of my mothers family.
I can well imagine how exciting it was to receive the group photo. The photo I have of my great grandparents was such a surprise. A cousin who I had "met" through GR sent me an email saying "you probably have this photo but if not here it is". The photo downloaded bit by bit and I became very teary when I saw who it was. I had it printed and took it straight to my brother and he also became emotional. For the rest of the day we phoned each other to discuss one thing after the other about the photo.
Your photo frame sounds perfect for the photo. I have some reproduction antique frames that look good but it would be wonderful to find some originals.
Good morning Sue and Good evening Tec .
Tec , I'm pleased to hear that your water is back on and that you have been having a spot of lovely weather .
Sue ....looking at photos with ones Mum is the best : )) I'm so pleased that I made the effort to get my Mum to chat a lot about old photos . I'm happy that I was able to absorb most of the info she told me . I really ought to label some of the photos I have . When my Nan died Mum inherited two Victorian albums , my Granddad had penciled in the names of some people but the majority remain a mystery .
We stayed on the boat last night . I won the fishing contest this time , three Eels to his one , and one of mine was a whopper !!
