Good Evening Linda,

Have you had an exciting day?

SueMaid Report 3 Sep 2010 21:50

Hi Tec - you came in as I was posting. I would love to see your garden. If - next year - you see a strange woman standing in front of your house gazing in wonder at your garden you'll know it's me:-))

My lily bulbs from last year are sprouting again so I'm looking forward to a good show again of white and pink lillies. This year - at the expo - I bought burgundy and dark pink so they should all look beautiful when they are in bloom.

We've had quite a downpour overnight so the garden is well watered. More forecast for the day.

Now that you mention it I thought that Persey may be near Auckland

Tec ..... your garden sounds lovely .......maybe I'll join forces with Sue and be spotted looking over your wall....lol

I was planting miniature Daffs today ....I always buy several packets in the Autumn , bury them all over the place and then instantly forget where I've planted them ......when they appear in the Spring I'm pleasantly surprised by them : ))

I am glad that Persey is safe, but sorry for those in Christchurch. The news comes on in ten minutes,so it may be on there. OH has been watching the England football match which has just finished.

My garden is still very colourful as well. There was a bit of a green gap, mainly because OH had dug out lots of tall pink things which were taking over the previous year, but then lots more stuff flowered. i will have to try and plant things to fill the gap in flowering.

We go tomorrow Sue

I am coming to see Tec as well. Sue can come here first as it is close to her OH's family, We can then get up a bus trip and wend our way down the country picking up people as we go.

Lovely sunny morning in Auckland - hard to believe all the rubble one is seeing in Christchurch - this is a lovely city more or less very flat with the Avon River running through it. Luckily so far only two people badly injured one from falling glass. Mobile phone coverage at a minimum, water turned off and sewerage system will not be working but they hope to restore power to the area. 7.4 magnitude not quite as high as our Napier one in 1931 (7.8) where the city was reduced completely to rubble.
I see there is already footage on YouTube - inside a house in Christchurch.
Sort of makes you feel quite vulnerable - the fault lines do not go anywhere near that side of the South Island. One would think that one would have been very safe living there. Where as my daughter in Wellington is right on the fault line and she is very used to tremors etc but nothing like this.

Persephone.

Hello Amanda,
I also plant bulbs and forget where I've put them, nice surprise in the Spring though.

Will there be room for me on the bus? I'm happy to go anywhere.

Yeah I only live in a City built on 50 dormant (?) volcanoes.
I suppose one has to expect things considering how NZ came to be and how it has changed shape ( shifting of the plates) over millions of years.
We had one in the Bay of Plenty several years ago the railway line went all skewiff and a friend of mine walked into her kitchen to open cupboards and a mess of bottled fruit etc all over the floor but at least the house was still standing. But it is on the fault line and there were always tremors and small quakes going on.

Hope you are sitting tight Carole and have battened down the hatches... thinking of you.

Good evening Linda, Tec, and Amanda
Good morning Sue,

Haven't heard anything yet about the earthquake but it does sound nasty, hope there isn't to much damage and everyone is alright. hope the storm isn't to bad for Carole, as you say Sue mother nature can be very harsh when she want's to.

Tec your garden sound's lovely and I too would love to see it, weather here has been nice again but is said to change next week.

Linda, I hope you have a nice time when you go away, were did you say you were going as I have forgotten and don't want to waste time looking at old post. Chose not to use the communial bed as didn't need your snoreing to disturb me, my new neighbour's is bad enough lol.

Hello Perse,

I hope things are not too bad for the people in Christchurch - must have been quite frightening.
We've had two little tremors here, nothing serious. Bathroom cabinet fell of the wall, which caused OH to question my DIY abilities.
"Excuse my dear - but I'm hardly responsible for a bl**dy earthquake"
