That is very clever of you Sue having thoughts like that ... I can now proclaim you as relatively normal.

The Sedum " family " is vast isn't it Sue ......I think that the wild plant " stonecrop " , that grows on the beaches round here sometimes must be from the Sedum group .

You are in such trouble Diane and you just keep digging a deeper hole. Yes you should run.....fast.

The Crown Imperial does look lovely Amanda - but it says that it smells like a fox. Does it smell when you brush up against it?

I must go - I know that a lot of the northern suburbs of Christchurch have been rather badly hit (they have not been able to get coverage there for TV yet) the CBD is not too bad. The airport is back to working and things seems to be getting stabilised.

Catch you all later (well not Diane she had a head start)

The smell comes from the bulb more than anything Sue ....sort of musky but if you happen to spear it with a garden fork , then it really does reek ....lol

I've given up growing them , as the damned Lily Beetle destroyed the last ones , there is supposed to be a fantastic sort of "dew" globbit that hangs inside the flower , a friend of mine once snapped the head off a perfect specimen as he drawing it's owner to the spectical of the " dew ".......lol......luckily she didn't take his head off at ruining it .....lol

Can't remember the last time I ran anywhere, don't think I could even if I wanted too lol.

I like hearing what people have in their gardens, and find it very interesting that you in Aus, and Perse in NZ have many things that we grow here - very envious that Perse can grow bourganvillia outside like they do in Mediterranean areas.
We don't have any big garden centres here, just two small ones. The best one I ever found was by accident up a little country lane. An elderly Dutch lady ran this tiny garden centre single handed. She had the most unusual things there that you never saw in the big commercial places. We went back often, and always came away with rare and unusual plants.

SueMaid Report 3 Sep 2010 23:42

We can grow bourganvillia easily here in Australia, Tec. It's very messy and when it's windy the papery flowers turn up in our yard and we don't have a bourganvillia. Obviously someone near by does. However it is a lovely plant.

As much as I love my garden I think I enjoy my potted plants more. I have so many - some would say too many - but they are a passion and luckily one I share with my mother. She has some beautiful plants and we quite often spend time together working on our plants.
