I would if I could Sue but I'm not going into their garden as they never clear up after their three dogs !!

Oh My gosh Sue - setting fire to a flag - treason!!!
I know Amanda is smouldering but
do counties/ football flags come under such restrictions or are they okay to burn ?

Allan

Allan Report 13 Sep 2010 22:58

Amanda, when it first happened a few years ago, we were in Tasmania and it was very frightening, although looking back I think that I may have been like it since I was a child. Knowing what it is is half the battle.

Margaret River was cold and wet but still delighful.

Persey .....it's probably tantamount to treason as far as football minded folk go but I don't care for the game myself and would happily burn them all .....lol

Persephone Report 13 Sep 2010 23:02

we labelled mine "Dizzy in Farmers" as it happened one day when I was in the Farmers Department Store... mine would happen when I least expected it and sometimes be over in a few minutes... I don''t ignore it just go with it and they have gradually got less and less. I would get annoyed with them because they would happen just when I reached the checkout and then I couldn't think straight that was at their worst and they would last longer. Now they are minor on the richter scale.

Are anxiety attacks brought on by anything or do they just happen? I'm afraid I don't know anything about them although I know some people do suffer from them.

I don't think setting fire to a football flag is a treacherous act - although a football fan may disagree:-)

Thank you Allan and Persey ......it really is a comfort to hear from people that have suffered and overcome such horrid sensations . I have advised my girl to " go with it " in as much as except it , breath , wait for it to pass .
I think you quite right Allan when you say " knowing what it is is half the battle " , she has just wanted to hide away from it instead of face it full on .
Fingers crossed that she gets some help on Wednesday .

Amanda2003 Report 13 Sep 2010 23:14

I think they just happen Sue ...... but I could be wrong , maybe it's different for everyone slightly . What has alarmed daughter so much is it has happened for no apparent reason .

Persephone Report 13 Sep 2010 23:15

Different strokes for different folks Sue.
Some people cannot even walk to the end of their street - completely housebound. Others adopt coping mechanisms - I know someone who worrys when she is driving being out there - so she always has the sunvisor down day or night rain or shine - so as to enclose her into her own little space that much more. But she is great gusto when it comes to public speaking.

Greetings from the Cave,

Today the heavens opened - torrential rain for hours. Then just for fun the water main in the road burst again, so we were awash. Back came the Water Board, turned off the water, and dug another big hole.
Yesterday morning at 7 am I awoke to loud crackling and bangs, and what I thought was lightning. but it wasn't. Apparently a flock of jackdaws had landed on an electricity cable, the weight had caused the cable to touch the one beneath it causing a short. Then we had a power cut for several hours 'till the electricty board turned up to fix things. What fun we have!

Amanda I hope very much things come right for your daughter soon and that she will be well and happy. My OH got on ok today, I took her leg, and her other one came too - they are inseparable.

Perse - I've never actually set foot on Lord Howe Island, but have seen it many times in passing by ship. Large ships are not able to berth there as there is insufficient draught to get over the reef, and the little jetty couldn't take a ship of any size.
I must say it is the most magical sight with the two peaks rising out of the ocean, and to see it at sunrise when the mountains are crimson against an emerald sky is something you never forget. The Carribean, and Cocos Islands are beautiful too, but Lord Howe Island is without doubt the best of all I've ever seen - do go if you get the chance.

Carole - Your visit to Maldon sounds wonderful, very interesting. When I lived in Essex I was just a few miles from a little town called Maldon.

Sue, I hope your weather improves and the sun appears for you today.

Hi to anyone I missed who may have posted while I did.

Tec.

Amanda, one thing that I find helps is that I always carry a bottle of water with me. Psychological, I know, but just having something with me that I know I can swallow easily seems to keep the symptoms at bay.

At the very least if I do get an attack I find that drinking water helps.

Allan Report 13 Sep 2010 23:24

Sue, mine are not triggered by any specific event or happening.

As in Amanda's daughters case, my 'adult' anxiety attack happened for no apparent reason, although on reflection it did occur on the anniversary of my mothers death, when I was the same age as my mother when she died.

I may have mentioned that she was only 55 when she died and I may have been dwelling on that.

I'll pass that tip on to my daughter Allan , it sounds like a good piece of advice , thank you .

Hello Tec .......blimey , you have been having a rare old time haven't you !!

Burst water mains and electric cables falling down sound like a recipe for disaster , it's a wonder that nobody got caught in the cross fire . Where the Jackdaws ok ?

I'm pleased the Dutchess getting along ok and thank you for the kind wishes to my daughter .

Hello Tec - glad the Duchess is ok. Her good leg must find it annoying to have to follow the bad one to the clinic:-)) What a time you've had with water, electicity and rain. I doubt we'll see the sun today.

I would imagine the worst thing with an anxiety attack would be the struggling to swallow or breathe. That would panic you even more I should think.

Amanda the jackdaws must have been alright, having caused chaos. I didn't find any cooked ones. I wouldn't have known what happened except that a neighbour witnessed the event.

Good Morning Allan,
Glad you enjoyed your weekend away.
