Sandie, I've eaten rabbit, and have had wild duck and grouse.

OH and I have also recently found a taste for venison. We have also tried Kangaroo meat but found the taste a bit strong compared to beef.

As others on this thread know, I love cooking. Nothing gourmet just good meals.

Don't know if anyone is still here. You have all been very talkative to-day and it took longer than I thought to read it all.

How do you make banana-bread? My diet calls for a banana a day, and I only put in a grocery order each second week, so it's bananas which I run out of first because they don't keep that long. I buy five 'eat now' and five 'eat later', and I took Linda's advice and wrapped the green ones in foil and put in the crisper of the fridge. That does help, but I always have to do a top-up trip to the supermarket. Also, by the time a week is up, the 'later' ones have ripened but are still very hard.

We have little skinks in this area. My cat often brings one in very proudly to show me. As soon as she drops them to take a breath, they take off and leave their tails behind. She loses them every time. I often find them squashed under the carpet when I sweep, but mostly they get away from her. The skinks around here are only about two inches long but a friend who lives only a few miles away, has told me the ones in her garden are about 6 inches long and they nip her when she is gardening.

I didn't know you were fond of cooking Allan:))

We've had Kangeroo ,when the new Tesco shop opened they had quite a variety of different meats.

Not too keen on venison or veal.

Used to love lamb, especially greek style,think I told you, but went off it when I was pregnant, dau's not fussy either so we only tend to have chops now rather than a joint.

I've got a fussy dau, we tend only to have beef when she's away!!

Sandie, my OH loves lamb chops but I find them too fatty.

I enjoy a nice pork chop, but true to my UK upbringing I love roast beef with yorkshire pudding.

I also enjoy a nice roast of lamb.

When we lived in Cleethorpes I worked on the Grimsby Fish Docks. We had plenty of fresh fish, but over here fish is very expensive.

Hello Allan, you posted whilst I was typing.
My mother had a 'rabbit man' who called every second week and she would stew the rabbit, using split peas and veggies. I loved it but left it behind when we moved back to Newcastle. Nobody delivered rabbits there and the butchers didn't sell them then.
I hadn't had it for about thirty years, and I saw them on sale in a butcher shop, so I bought one and made the stew just like my Mum had made it. My OH and I thought it was lovely, and the children (grown up) seemed to like it until one asked what it was? When I said rabbit - that was it - they stopped eating! Youngest had only seen rabbits in captivity and thought it was 'grose' to eat. The boys had seen wild rabbits when they went camping and just couldn't think of eating it. That was the last time I tried to give them rabbit!

Berona, our rabbits came from the Manchester University! My brother worked there as a laboratory technician and the rabbits were the ones euthanised after various experiments.

I still enjoy it but haven't had any for years now as OH cannot stand it.

I should have introduced the family to rabbit while they were little but the eldest son worked in a new industrial estate and he enjoyed sitting outside to have his lunch and watch the rabbits happily bounding around in the bush area behind the factory.
I force myself to eat veggies. I am a meat-eater, but when I see the size of the lamb cutlets in Spring, I can't help thinking "poor little lambs didn't have a chance" and I use the excuse that they are too expensive when I decide not to buy it. I was reared on beef, lamb & pork. My Mum never bought chickens, because they were so dear before the freezing became popular. I was married before she started buying them, but it took me a long time to get used to the taste.

I'm fond of poultry, Berona, and will usually have a chicken breast fillet if OH is having lamb chops.

Chicken is the cheapest 'meat' here now.
I love it and fortunately so do the rest of the family , so we have it very often along with fish, helps keep the Cholesterols levels down:)
Don't like turkey or duck tho.

Berona, I love veg of all sorts and often have a meal with the family where I just have the veg... couldn't be a vegetarian tho.

My 2 neices are, well one is a vegetarian, the other is a vegan !
Her parents have a leather suite, but also have a similar coloured chair for Bev..she won't sit on leather, when she comes here she sits on the floor as both my suite and dining chairs are leather !!!

We eat mutton birds here - mainly Maori Kai.

Muscovy Ducks used to come up regularly from the farm in Taranaki and when I was down there would enjoy Wild Duck (spitting out the pellets)
Dad cooked a swan for us all and it went down without any fuss. (but then I think he has eaten all our natives and wild birds at some time because he told me kiwi is too tough) People are trying to get the government to agree to people farming wekas but the conservationists are against it so that argument goes on.
My father also ordered turtle steak when we were in Florida but of course now they are protected.
Cajun cooking - they cook alligators etc and when I had my book shop I purchased a Canadian cook book that had Bear and Moose (not chocolate) recipes.... sold it to a keen cook. I enjoyed looking through it first - one recipe said first catch your Bruin...., Yeah right!!! South America they cook guinea pigs so each to his own - if I was there yep I would give it a go.

Venison - my SIL goes hunting so we get some from time to time but I also by the minced venison patties - I wouldn't touch a mince pattie but the venison has been woodsmoked before making into a pattie.

Other meats corned & smoked mutton which I no longer see and my mother liked brawn - which I won't touch. But I will eat corned tongue.

Sound like a foodie eh!!

Bus trip - went to library to check electoral rolls for Brits that are searching for rellies - I found one we have 63 books to look through and I found her in number 58 - first name, middle name and surname all present and correct but wouldn't you know it in book number 61 there was another woman with the exact same name - and I think she will be the second one - as I had already dug out other family history for this person.
Been interesting and I got my book for the Greaders group, went and visited a cousin that works in town and had my lunch there.

I do feel bad about not finding people for the others though. One I thought I found in the phone book initials E E and surname (Male) - British contact checked but the woman who answered the phone said in no uncertain terms that she had the wrong person,,,, I found her today in the electoral rolls and her middle name is Elfleda (I have never seen that one before).

I've heard of the name Elfreda, but haven't known anyone by that name.
I tried baked leg of Kangaroo. Seemed a bit 'strong' to me, unless I was being petty. Only tried it the once.
Again, I was up near the Blue Mountains here in NSW and looked down on a farm where all the deer were grazing and they looked beautiful - so I don't think I want to try eating venison either. Strangely, I don't worry about the lambs and cows when I see them grazing, so I think the secret is to enjoy the taste first, then find out where it comes from later!

Morning everyone,
It's bright and sunny here. While I was walking through town I thought it felt a touch cold.
I've tasted pheasant and ostrich.I still reckon chicken is the best.
Apologies Sandie and Allan for not answering! I'm fine.
The peak posting time seems to be when I'm in bed! dsometimes if I'm tired I go to bed early with a book.
Hope the haircut goes ok Tec and it's not too cold for you!

Evening Pat and gidday Allan,

I forgot about ostrich Pat, my cousin made an ostrich pie when we had brunch at her place, to be honest I didn't think much of it and had extra bacon and scrambled eggs more my style.
Now Pheasant I will eat, one place where I worked I could see a couple of pheasant in this bit of greenery and trees across the main road from my office window. I think a supersleuth probably shot them for their dinner.

Barnaby would never have solved that one either well only after 4 grouse, two partridges and several quails had met their deaths.

It's good to have you back Allan and I say that without any ef-front-ery.

Hello everyone .....and welcome back to the thread Sandie , I only joined in here a few months ago , such a wonderful set of people on here : ))

Sue , your scrap booking sounds interesting .Do you create little collages on the pages ?
I've been busy off and on all day painting my boxes and then went out to buy more ........guess my lot will all be getting a personalised box this christmas ....lol
My eldest daughter visited the Dr and she is referring her to a Psychiatrist , so we are both pleased to know that she will be getting some help in the near future . Thank you again Allan and Persey for your thoughts and input on the subject .

Tec , how did your visit to the barber go and have you got cool ears now ?
The wind has been a blowing here all day , very Autumnal weather indeed .
