Of course they weren't Aussies Linda - they wouldn't have gone to a town where there wasn't a big sign saying Maccas.

That reminds me of my first visit to the UK about 10 years ago. We stayed with family in Guisborough and the day after they arrived they took us for a drive. I was thoroughly enjoying the scenery on the moors when they suggested we go somewhere for lunch. I thought they would take us to a lovely country pub but after what seemed like hours we ended up in Stockton and they drove into the carpark of a MacDonalds. We still laugh about that now.

If anyone want's to check out the meaning's I am refering to ( I can't put them up on the thread ) go to google put the word in and click on the site that say's Urban Dictionary and you will see all the meaning's I can't put up.

I have every intention of going to Wales, Sandy. Last time we were in the UK we didn't see enough of Wales. I have to go to North Wales 'cos there's a certain gentleman and his lady who I would love to meet:-))

Sue ....hand on my heart I can say I have never ever eaten a McDonalds in my life . I did nip into one once but that was just to use the loo ......lol

Diane ..... I have lots of words wandering about in my brain , I must admit " balmy " doesn't get out very often . I'm so pleased I have a spell check on here as I probably wouldn't say much if I didn't .

Gonk ..... I'm not going to google and look , it just makes me think of a hairy thing with eyes ? or ....weird little figure things that where about in the 70s , I think they where made of wood and had fur as hair ? ( or is that just my imagination ? )

Amanda, I was mainly refering to the other 2 ladies on here who were pulling their OH to pieces ( in the nicest possible way ) have to say that or they will think I'm having a go at them, not yourself.

Sandie, I was talking about the ad's you had to get rid of before you could join us hun, silly me I must have worded it wrongly.

Naturally Sue,if we have people staying with us and take them out for a meal, we always pay because they are our guests. If we just meet up with friends, that is different and we pay for our own meals

S'mae Sandie - hope you are well and keeping warm.

Linda you are right, my brothers wouldn't starve, one would go to a restaurant, the other to a McDonalds.

Sue I was the eldest of five, two brothers, two sisters. Being the eldest it was necessary at times because of circumstances, for me to look after everyone when my mother was ill in hospital. My brothers were too young at the time, as were the sisters. I left that house when I was sixteen, so have no idea what happened then, except that I do know my brothers both grew up to be extremely chauvinistic, as was my father.

That experience has made you the person you are today, Tec and unfortunately made your brothers who they are. Isn't it amazing how siblings can grow up in the same household and turn out so differently.

That's sad:(
We are a very close family on mum's side, dad didn't speak to his sister in later yrs , but he was always accepted into mums family as a brother:)) and very well respected by them all ,as he used to sort out any probs they had.

As you have been chastising me Diane, i shall go and spend some quality time with OH. I am sure he would prefer to watch TV on his own, but I will go and chat away to him.

Goodnight up top people and have a lovely party Sue

Diane

Diane Report 24 Sep 2010 23:07

Yes Linda I do wear glasses lol

Amanda, you are right about that meaning to the word, but it's the other meaning's that would shock you, I suppose I shouldn't have used the word, I won't in the future in case anyone think's I'm being rude.

I'm another who doesn't like fastfood like Maccies and burger K**g, I prefer a pub lunch as they are quite reasonably priced menu's. I only go into the other's if I'm treating the grandchildren as they love to go in them, but they also like Pizza as I do so that is my preferance when I treat them.

It is interesting Sue how siblings can be so different. I have a sister who is a treasure, a lovely person. As for the rest, well, as you would say Hmmph - with good reason.

My nearest McDonalds is 50 miles away - a long way to go for a burger even if I wanted, which I don't. I do enjoy fish and chips though sometimes.

Goodnight Linda:-))

I only go to Maccas with the grandkids too. I'm not a fan of that or the other fast food places. I like pizza but I enjoy homemade ones better than bought ones. When we took mum to the UK it was the first time she'd ever had pizza in a Pizza Hut. Not sure she enjoyed it.

Linda .... I dare you to ask him if he has any hospital / dentist appointments coming up soon ; ) lol
Sweet dreams to you .

Tec , as Sue said , it is strange how siblings can be so different . My eldest brother is much like myself in nature but the middle child ( also my older brother , me being the youngest of three ) , is very much a " lame dog " . Mum always said that he had inherited all the worst of both her and Dads natures . Sadly , he is inherently lazy and has just let life pass him by : ((
