Berona Report 27 Sep 2010 00:00

Hello everyone! Brought my breakfast with me so that I could read the posts sooner.
A few days ago I was wearing the thickest woollen jacket and to-day we have a forecast of 28! That's far too high for September, although our swimming season starts on Friday.
Perse - have you gone onto daylight saving already? or are you just trying to confuse the Poms? (It's beginning to confuse me too!).

We went over in the middle of Saturday night Berona...

It takes me ages to come right losing an hour. I slept in this morning.

When we go to Oz we gain two hours and that is wonderful we have a wonderful long first day and it sets us up for our trip. We have one mobile on NZ and one on OZ time and then when we went to Adelaide we gained another half an hour which I think is weird but hey it was a bit of extra time. We wake up NZ time and go to bed NZ time but it means we get away early in the day and get to see a lot before dark. Then we come home and losing those two hours make for one grumpy afternoon when we get back, we have hardly had lunch and it is dinner time. It takes a couple of days to sort oneself back to normality.

I think you are a bit late to share your brekkie with the others.

This pom doesn't need much confusing Berona !
When i was on GR threads with J and D one from Perth the other from the East, I was never sure of their times; 2 hours difference sometimes I think !

Hope you are well, not too hot, not too cold !

My neighbour is married to an OZ and when he came over in Dec ,our winter (freezing) he used to go outside for a smoke (not allowed indoors) in his T shirt , whilst I would be in my warm top and fleece !!

Who's sharing? Lol
So, for the next month, you are three hours ahead of us, right? Five hours ahead of W.Aust and thirteen hours ahead of GMT. Is that right?
Doesn't matter much, though. At the end of next month, it all changes again!

They are made of stern stuff some of these Kiwis and Ozzie blokes. My cousin when he was living in the UK said that the locals were amazed at how he would wander around in his shorts (he was a builder) in the winter.

Our winters are fairly mild we have the odd really cold snap here in Auckland but even on the coldest of days you will see people in shorts and it is not just the blokes. In my primary school days we all had bare legs and a small gas heater at the front of the class where now the kids wear fleecy track pants and have central heating.

Sandie, the UK has one time but Australia is so broad, it takes in three time zones. New Zealand is long but not broad like Oz and it is on the opposite side of the world to the UK and therefore, twelve hours ahead (using standard time) It is also a 'long' shaped country and fits into one time zone. Eastern Australia is two hours behind NZ and ten hours ahead of UK. That's using standard time - but it all becomes confusing when we change our clocks around to start or finish daylight saving. Some places go forward one hour to start D.S., and some go back one hour to finish their D.S.
Just to confuse us all a bit more, not every state in Australia has daylight saving, so some of us may be living by D.S. time whil others are living on standard GMT time.

Now just take a couple of paracetamol and have a good night's sleep, and it will all be clear to you in the morning.
(clear as mud, that is).

Actually Sandie and Berona we have one part of our country that is 45 mins ahead of the rest of NZ. Chatham Islands 750 kms out off the coast is the culprit. Poor loves they always get forgotten they are the last ones to be read on the weather reports. About six hundred people live there, they have an airport and are sort of the Orkneys of NZ.
They got to see in the Millenium before we did.

Good Morning Persey,

I hope very much it does turn out to be a good day in Aukland. Been a typical Autumn day here. Very still - mist laying heavy on the mountains, and the sea had hardly a ripple on it, like glass. Not cold, but creepy damp if you know what I mean.
A nice day for walking through the woods looking for cob nuts, but I expect those squirrels have stashed them all away for the winter - good for them.

Looking forward to watching "Spooks" part 2 of the new series that started last week. I enjoy the often daft plots and hope that in reality MI6 and the security services operate with slightly less brinkmanship for all our sakes - but it's good fun all the same.

Good Evening Pat,
Hope you are well. We lit the fire this evening, haven't had the central heating going yet, but think we will do in the next few days - it's forecast to get wet and windy later in the week.

Saw a swallow today, that surprised me as I thought they had all gone for the winter.

Looks like there will be some very damp golfers in Newport Pat - I never did get into golf - I know it's a very popular sport, but I prefer a walk in the country without having to whack a little ball in front of me lol.

Hello there Pat .... just been putting the washing out, it looks like the sun will last today. It was a bit slow arriving but I think it will be a good one.

Tec - I read that thread on cobnuts, I didn't know what they were I like hazelnuts so would probably like them. I eat a couple of brazil nuts every day along with some almonds. The brazil nuts are supposed to have selenium in them but I really think that it depends on the type of soil that they are grown in. My local, nuts, spices, pulses, Indian and Middle Eastern food has nuts much cheaper than the supermarket. We are only a little village but have about five spicey type shops... and they are open till quite late every night.

Spooks not on here at the moment but you are right about the daft plots they come up with.

I love it Perse - that's very funny, and clever, I will copy it if you don't mind.

I like walnuts best, and then almonds. Oh is fond of macadamian sp nuts from Oz, but they are only stocked in high class stores, and there aren't too many stores of that calibre in this area.
I didn't see the thread on cobnuts - the same as hazlenuts really
