Persey - my mum is the one who makes trifle and as long as she can do it I wouldn't dare make one myself:-)) I will take over the tradition one day. At Christmas mum always comes and stays with us for a couple of days and makes the trifle at my house. So I thought it would be nice for her to have really nice bowl to make it in.

My mum used to make a trifle for Christmas as well Sue, but she put an incredible amount of sherry in it. good job we didn't have to drive.

Look Linda... a person of your calibre should be able to do a lot better than that.

We need a lot more than a couple of ten pound notes ... Berona said to put them in an interest bearing account... the way financial institutions are going they would be safer under Lanto's dog blanket.

Hello Persey ...... how interesting that you have Druids in your family , I guess they are a bit like Masons in some ways , all very secretive ...lol

Sue .....I don't mind a Trifle at Christmas . I have an old really heavy glass bowl ( I think it belonged to my G.Grandmother ) , my OH makes a massive Trifle which usually lasts several days .

It is time for bed now. Tomorrow we are going to stay with my daughter for a few days,so there will be much coochy cooing of Eve going on. We are all going to meet up with my son and his girlfriend on Saturday, so it will be nice to have all the family together.
I will have my lap top,so will look in on the thread, but I probably won't be able to chat for long, so have a good weekend every one

Good morning Perse I'm still here and will be for a time yet,

Yes Sue you are right about sciatica, the pain radiate's from the back down the back of the leg to the back of the knee and it is a burning pain, the reason I thought it might be was because my pain goes from the socket of hip down to the knee and is like a burning pain but is at the front of the leg.
Well that make's a change from plant's Sue, now you are ready for that special time of year ( christmas ) sorry I no the mention of it is a no no and I too will put an order in for a sherry Trifle please, the sherry will keep it fresh for the journey here.

My mum puts quite a bit of sherry in her trifle too. Because we had no other family over here in Aus. my mum would make Christmas Day as special as she could. We would have mince pies, ham, turkey etc. Once we were adults and had our own families Boxing Day became the day we would all spend together. It's getting harder now that our own children have grown up but everyone still comes to my house at some point during the day. Even my nephews turn up with various girlfriends and spend some time with us which is great because at their ages I wouldn't expect them to.

Sue I think it's just galloping old age catching up with me at last lol.

Hi Perse - I think your Father and Grandfather may have been FreeMasons, as the setsquare and compass are Masonic Symbols.
The Welsh Druids or Bards are an Ancient Order of people who have made a significent contribution to the Welsh language with their poetry and literature - both The Duchess and I have a Bard in our ancestry.

Diane

They really must do something about you, backache, joint aches etc and burning pain in your thighs is not good.... you definitely need more than panadol or a whiskey or two.... you pester and pester the powers that be and have all the tests you can. Do not be fobbed off.....

and with that little lecture I must go...

Take care Brits and those Aussies that come on here now and then and our intrepid late comer Berona.

Talk to you later Sue

It sure is Amanda - when the children become adults it's really difficult to get them all together at the same time.

My father was a Mason for a number of years and he really enjoyed it. I remember a thread going up on here one time and the person stated that they had found some ancestors who were Masons and she felt ashamed. There was such an outcry and I was compelled to make comment. She acted as though Masons were thugs and murderers.

Sue boxing day was like that in our house when I was a girl, brother and sister would come with their children and 2 Auntie's and Uncle and cousin's would arrive in the afternoon. It was great to have all different member's of family there, I really miss those day's, now I don't see any family member's just my daughter and her 3 daughter's. Pity I have to work all through christmas and New year, make's it a very busy christmas day going to work for about 3hrs then comeing home to get dinner ready, but I still enjoy the day with daughter and her girl's.

Have a good day Persey : ))

Sue ....what an odd way to perceive the Masons . I know they are supposed to be a bit " secret " but I thought they did an awful lot of charitable things . My Mums cousin is a Mason and has been for many years . We used to snigger ( not to him of course ) about aprons and rolled up trouser legs but to be honest I don't know much about what they get up to .

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 29 Sep 2010 23:16

It sounds like a busy day Diane but still nice that you can spend your time with your girls.

Amanda - my dad's lodge was very involved in charitable things. We used to have a giggle at the aprons etc. when we were younger too. I have his badges now and the name of his lodge although I can't imagine the family will want to keep them.
