I often wonder why some parent's these day's buy such expensive present's for their children when they are young as they are no different to when our's were little, they still enjoy playing with the wrapping's more than the toy itself.

Thank's Sue, I know we can all share are stories with each other happy and sad on here.

Hi Amanda, my hip isn't to bad now though this morning it was, I took an anti-inflammatory tablet this morning and it has eased the pain.

I think now day's children have to many expensive toy's and gadget's available to them and a lot of these thing's don't encourage them to interact with other children or adult's. My grand-daughter's ( 12, 13, 16 yrs ) have alway's got their mobile phone's with them when they come to mine and all they seem to do is text their friend's and text to FB. I have ban the use of them when they come now and try to get them to play game's together, do a dance for me or get my son to do karaoke with them as they all love singing.

My daughter put a ban on toys for awhile. The house was overcrowded with toys. For the twins birthday I bought a little kitchen stove complete with pots, pans and kettle. It was inexpensive and the twins love it. Of course you have to have coffee and food everytime you visit but that's ok. Drew's more grown up and he tells me it's 'pretend coffee'. He also enjoys jigsaws and board-games.

They are the best toy's Sue, I don't think my grand-daughter's know what a jigsaw is nowday's, they used to have them when they were little but since they all went into the senior's they seem to have gone from doll's, pram's and tea-set's to make-up, talking about boy's and their texting on mobile's.

I have an odd selection of toys hidden in a corner of my living room, when the older two come round they just ask to use the computer now ( or they want craft stuff out to make cards etc ) . Emily plays with the toys ( and they get scattered all over the house ....lol ) .
But oddly , they all like playing with a wooden house ( that was my Mums toy as a child , made by her father for her back in the early 30s ) , I have to get it down off the shelf and they also want various ornaments ( little metal vikings etc ) to put in the house . They play for hours sometimes with that set up .

When Drew had his little birthday party a little girl arrived - a lovely little girl with a very glamorous mother. This 6 y.o. was dressed as a teenager, a trendy scarf around her neck, hair teased and gelled into a hair-do that a film star at the Oscars would be proud of and dripping in jewellery. When the party ended she rang her mother with her mobile to ask if she could stay longer to play because she loved the children's swing set.

Diane , I bet if you bought a jig-saw ( say maybe 500 pieces ) and you fitted a few bits together next time they are due to visit , then before you know it they would be crowded round making it ....lol
When my son was 14 ( and being a surly teenager ) he wandered into the living room and found me just starting a round jigsaw ( 500 pieces ) , he just joined in and it took us three hours to complete ......lol

Sue......that's just sad isn't it : (( Kids should be kids for as long as possible in my opinion .

Good day to you all , whatever time it is~~~~

I'm still a little confused time wise. I used to speak to Jackie in Perth and I suppose her time difference was different from yours in the east.
No different from N Wales and Herriot country tho 'lol.

Glad your hip is a bit better Di :)

How's your knee Tec.? Mine is giving me jip if I stand or sit still but is fine if I'm walking..strange !
I'm a little reluctant to prune hard, but it does work !
I think I'm fed up of this plant ..will cut it right down for hubby to dig out, which he doesn't straight away, lo and behold it grows like fury the next year !

Sue I must do that to my one and only rose, tho I'm scared I'd loose it and it has dear sentiments to me, but will give it a go after it has stopped flowering, it's very late this yr.

Pleased you had a good time with Emily, Amanda and were able to capture it on photo:)

Amanda a doll's house alway's seem to go down well with children ( even boy's ) lol.
It is lovely to think that something so old and belonging to your mum is still enjoyed today by your grandchildren.

Hello Sandie - I don't think you'll do your rose too much harm but it is scary when you first take the pruning shears to it ☺☺

Doll's houses are still as popular now as many years ago. My daughter's fiance bought the children a trampoline. I love listening to the screams and giggles as the children play together. It's very good for Aimee's co-ordination - something her doctor commented on the other week.

Hi Sandie, sorry to hear you are suffering with your knee now, must have something to do with the weather ( damp and cold ) I'm the same with my hip/knee pain, sitting is when I am in pain but walking and standing isn't a problem, doesn't seem to make sense does it.

Diane ....the wooden house was part of my Mums farm set ( she had lead animals apparently ) , it's only a little house . But on the subject of dolls houses , my eldest daughter had one when she was four , my Mum had a friend make it ( out of old cupboards etc ) then she decorated it and made it all lovely . One of daughters friends ( a boy ) used to come round and he was playing with it for ages but insisted he was only tidying it up NOT playing with it ! ......LOL
Last year I revamped it and now it belongs to her daughter , Daisy : ))

Dad made me a dolls house for Xmas one yr , along with lights and all the furniture.
Woke up early hrs on Xmas morning to see these lights in the room, bless him I bet he had only just finished it, knowing him.
Boy oh boy, parents didn't have any more sleep that morning !/lol
I was a tomboy , he also made me a garage and I had a huge collection of Matchbox and Corgi cars:))
I was the baby of the family and the son he never had, but he loved me to bits:)) me him too:)

I'm sure damp weather is worse than anything for aches and pains. I have a little arthritis in my hands and feet that is fine most of the time - certainly not painful. When the weather is damp my hands really ache.

Good Evening Diane - Glad to know you're not suffering too much at the moment with that hip.

Good Evening Sandie - Sounds like some of us haven't got a leg to stand on lol. My knee is still very painful when I walk, and if I'm stupid enough to kneel down it's well nigh impossible to get up again. Poor old soul lol.

I have a collection of jigsaws - OH keeps trying to get rid of them, but I won't part with them - they are for my old age :)) Stop laughing you lot.

Tec.

Diane Report 2 Oct 2010 22:59

Amanda I was actually thinking the same thing that you suggested, I thought I'd get a jigsaw for christmas as a present for us all for christmas day when they come for dinner as it is the only time I bring the big table into the liveing room from my bedroom ( not enough space in liveing room to have it in there all the time ) then after we have finished dinner I could get it out and put it on the table.

That would be just as good as a sing-a-long for getting the family to do something together, Diane.

Diane....that sounds like a great idea , there are some great jig saws out there these days , I'm sure you could find one that would suit your purpose .

Sue ....those trampolines scare me .....I'm pleased to hear that Aimee has fun on it .

Sandie.....I had lots of matchbox cars when I was a kiddie , my Dad ran a garage and I have two older brothers , so I was bound to be a tomboy....lol

Tec ....maybe your poor knee is trying to tell you it wants to make jig-saws ?
