Morning All

I have enough left to play today.... we have been very economic so will hose in inside the range.

I have my grandmother's paintings and my grandfather's bowling case which has his father's bowls inside it. It stands in the entrance way of the house. I also have china and silver (cutlery) of my grandparents and I consider myself lucky to get that. When I was little and my parents moved house my mother left the sivler behind as she hated cleaning it, only the cutlery came because it was boxed.

MY OH has paintings of his ancestors - one of them I just had a look at - it would have been painted in the 1700s.
I am concerned what will happen to his stuff as neither of our two girls are interested. OH's father's sister used to go around to "ladies afternoons" and give talks about the family history.

Oh and I am up for a trip.... tho' I would probably be more of a "want to explore the history etc" side rather than the shoes and handbags side, however, I could be tempted.

Persey (I can do strange letters too Sue)

This ironing will never get done !!

I have loads of samples of mum and dad's handwriting, and bits on paternal nan.
One weird coincidence is that I have a Post office book of hubby's stepfather, (he was a fantastic grandfather to my children) which shows the last entry as a withdrawal finalising the account which was signed and stamped by my father who was the postmaster at the time:).. another one for the treasure trove !

Ironing here I come !

Don't pander to her anyone. You are getting the ideas from the other thread Sue

My mum is a "thrower outer" and when dad passed away she was ready to get rid of everything he had. I rescued his watch, his masonic badges etc. I've told mum I want all the letters he wrote her when they were courting. Also the letter he wrote my mum after my brother was born (their first child).

I was doing that before the other thread ɐpuıL - Susanwithnumbers passed on the website.

Sue - You are the cleverest person I've ever known - and I don't know how you do such magical things with your funny pictures - I've seen similar things on the walls of the pyramids :))

I have an iron Sandie, I turn it on and then go away and leave it to warm up, forget about it until I hear it bleeping so go back and turn it off. I figure that is enough exercise for it for the day.

Hello and Cheerio Berona : ))

Linda ....it's things like hand writing that are so very precious : )) I have a post card / letter thing ( one of those ones that fold out ) written by my Grandfather when he took his Mother to Cornwall in the early 30s to visit her sister-in Law , he says in it that he can hear Ma ( that being Mary Ann ) talking very loudly about how she was the same height as Queen Victoria....lol .
It's very forward thinking of you to keep such things for future generations , I wonder if those that com after us will have the same passion for family history , none of my lot seem to be interested : (

We have cave drawings here Tec that are similar. Perhaps you could get Sue in to do the redecorating of your cave.

Yes you would have noticed the funny pictures on the pyramids Tec - I put them there. Fooled everyone into thinking that they were ancient grafitti but not so (̃-̮̮̃-)

It is difficult Amanda to know where things are going to end up after we have gone.
There are members of the next generation that are interested in the Genealogy side but they are only on either one side of the family or the other.
My OH has such a mass of historical writings etc, so am hoping as the girls get older they might find it more interesting.
I know I wished I had paid more attention to what went on and prevented my mother from giving away a lot of what she saw as old and not modern enough for her. Later when I did protest she told me it was hers and not for me to comment on.

Sounds like Mother's been around a very long time if it was her doing the pyramid and cave drawings.

Good idea Persey, I could then make a fortune conning the tourists into thinking they were ancient Celtic cave drawings.

My OH has a pair of Victorian lustres that were given to her grand parents as wedding presents in 1901 by their employer. They worked on a large country estate, he was the coachman, and she was a maid.

Hello Persey ....nice to see you back : ))

I'm being a little slow tonight , I think it's Sues weird squiggles running interference with my brain ; )

My Grandfather was a very keen photographer , he must have got his first camera in about 1912 . He used to travel around England ( mostly ) taking photos of beautiful buildings and he would create albums with lot's of written information in them about the architecture / history of said buildings . I remember that Mum did approach a publisher about them years ago , they expressed some mild interest in them but she never followed it up . I have half the collection now and my eldest brother has the other half . They are wonderful visual bits of history spanning almost 60 years .

Now the tourists would be impressed with that.... could charge even more and we would get our holiday.
