It is not a lie Tec, you like to keep busy, all men do, it is in the genes

Yes I watched them quite a bit when I had my foot in the moonboot Diane.
I don't like some of the colour schemes they come up with and have seen a few tacky wallpaper jobs done and things not quite done right.

They never actually finish when the whistle blows either, as later you find that things are in different places.

I am not being at all picky you understand. On the whole they do seem to achieve what the punter wants.

I worry about the standard of work in shows like that. Changing Rooms is one example. I remember one episode where they did a fireplace surround in fake Delft tiles. It was horrible and the woman of the house was in tears. One thing it does show is how a new coat of paint can freshen up a room.

I have seen the 60 minute makeover prog Diane - They really do transform those places, but I don't believe it's done in the time.

I also used to watch a similar prog that Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen did, what a terrible mess he made of peoples houses lol.

I have wanted to do my bedroom since I moved into this flat ( 8yrs ago ) all the wall's in the flat had been newly plastered, the only room that hasn't ever been done is my bedroom so I still look at plstered wall's when I go in it. The only way I can do it is if I put everything into the living room from my bedroom and move into the hall ( as if, 30inches wide and about 18ft long ) so I'll just have to wait for son to move out.

They replicated changing rooms here and some of the results were the pits.
Later they did a few shows where the designers had to go back and fix it all up again as to how the people wanted it.

I think it must be awful when you have done a really good job on a friend's place and they have done a terrible one on yours. You do wonder if friendships fall out over things like that.
I would probably need counselling afterwards.

Persey I've seen the NZ version of the programme, it was on here about two years ago.

Diane couldn't you do that room by moving everything to one side and doing one wall at a time - or am I being silly as usual?

There is no way I would let any of those designers loose on my home. They seem to make everything bold and brassy, I go for muted and tasteful myself.
Why don't you just move all the furniture into the middle of the room Diane and cover it with old sheets?

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 8 Oct 2010 23:13

It would annoy me if I specifically said I didn't want something changed and the so-called "friends" do it anyway. I've seen beautiful carpet or fireplaces etc. ripped out.

Diane - Tec could go around and do your decorating. You can go and stay at his mansion while he's doing the work. He won't mind - really:-))

I'd lock the doors if Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen came knocking at my door. He does some hideous work.

I do like some of the gardening make-over shows. We have a show here called Backyard Blitz and I like some of the work they do.

I watched today's one and it was done in Huyton in Liverpool which is about 2mile's from were I live, I go to Huyton town centre ( used to be called Huyton Village ) every week to the Bank or houseing office, I'm going to keep a look out for the woman who's house was done and see if it is what it seem's. Her son had it done for her as she is a fello sufferer of FM and also has arthritis, I hope my FM doesn't get as bad as her's that she is unable to do her own decorating anymore. What they did to her bedroom and living room was nice but wasn't to keen on the kitchen colour scheme.

Sue - I used to think that you were a nice lady.

Linda by the time you've drunk all that wine you wouldn't know what they'd done to your house because you wouldn't remember it. :))

When we arrived in this house there was seven arches four of them met in one part of the lounge area. The bench top was orange and they had shagpile in the lounge and the kitchen had brown felt carpet tiles.
It is way different now, we have gone for neutral tones, subdued and lighting to match. The house didn't start out in 1917 with arches so why put them in.... they were the first things to go. Looked like Michael Mouse had made them once the plasterboard had been taken off there were all these mishapen little pieces of wood underneath like a jig saw puzzle.

All the alterations done before seem to be layer upon layer upon layer. We took up the carpet in the office it had another carpet underneath that and under that was linoleum stuck hard to the floorboards.
Under wallpaper on top of wall paper and then under the gib (plaster board) there will be another lot of wallpaper and scrim.

Urggggh

Sue I've got so much work to do here, and I doubt I'll live long enough to finish it - nobody lives that long. So I can't go doing anyone elses houses up. Diane could get a man in with all that money I sent her.

I bet Berona has spent all hers - but Persey has been very quiet about it.

Wellington boots?

Tec, mine will be spent coming over to visit you, Sandie and Diane.
Not sure about visiting the drunken quarters of Yorkshire.

Oh dear Perse, sounds like the previous owners were cowboys.

Tec, I just looked at the Tifanny's website and there was a lovely diamond necklace, very understated and just what I would like, but it was 16K, so I couldn't afford it on the pittance you are allowing us

There is so much in my bedroom that I could not do as you have said, I have my double bed and with headboard surround which has a bedside table on either end, a bedroom suite which comprises of 3 double doored wardrobe's, dressing table, chest of 3 drawer's about 4ft wide and another chest of 3 drawer's about 18inches wide, a sideboard that should be in living room but make's living room to cluttered and a large table which when the extending leaves are not extended is 4ft square. The bedroom is about 13ft by 16ft. All the furniture I have mentioned is around all four wall's and all is necessary.

Persephone Report 8 Oct 2010 23:33

When we decided to buy this place, I wanted to bring my oven and put the one from here in our house. However, the one here was smaller and the space was not big enough. OH said oh well never mind we will get you a new stove. I cleaned up the stove and had it shining and OH then said Oh didn't realise it was okay and would clean up a treat. Previous owner said to me sorry I didn't clean the stove didn't have time. I would have been mortified to leave anything of mine in that state to hand over to new owners.
