Persey your house really does sound like mine - we found those sort of things too. A very old lady had lived here, we inherited 1950a wallpaper, layer after layer - the original really did look like William Morris. The original 1926 wiring was still in use, and lethal.
Basically it needed everything redoing, stating with the roof downwards.
Having moved from a very modern house it was quite a culture shock, but as property is very expensive in this area it was all we could afford.

Perse Amanda is in Norfolk so by the time you have got round to all of us you will have visited most of England and wales.

Tec what a good idea you have given me I woudn't get a man in as I would rather do it myself as I know exactly how I want it but what I can do is put all bedroom furniture in storage and then I'd have an empty room, now why didn't I think of that.

Persey when my daughter has an inspection from the real estate agent they always say how nice the house looks. When she says that she worries about the inspection she is always told how awful some houses look. The owner of the house has been to visit a couple of times and she has said that she would hate for my daughter to leave the house as she is such a good tenant. They are hoping to buy the house next year so that's another good reason for looking after it.

I thought our Pat is in Devon.

Don't pout Linda it doesn't become you.

I do believe Yorkshire is on the list..... can't watch all those episodes of "All Creatures Great and Small", "Last of the Summer Wine" & "Heartbeat" without wanting to go there.

Persey xx

Hello Diane (and everyone else!!) Thought I would tell you the story of my hip Diane. About 10 years ago I found that both my hips were so painful I had to stop my morning walks because I couldn't stand the pain and also was worried about maybe falling over. Went to the doc who sent me to an orthopedic specialist. Specialist said that I needed double hip replacement and he could get me into hospital within the week. (Because I had top level private health cover, no doubt.)

I chickened out but I was also suspicious that he thought so convincingly and suddenly that the hip replacement was what I needed.

Now, I've gone to a chiropractor for over 30 years because it was a chiropractor who got rid of my so-called migraine headaches that used to put me to bed for days at a time in a dark room. Haven't had a migraine since my first chiropractic adjustment, by the way.

Back to the hips. When I was at my chiropractors one day I told him the story about my specialist and the hips. He said "hmmm". and proceeded to push here and there on my hips which hurt like heck plus put me through a series of movements to check the flexibility and mobility of the hips. He said that if I needed a hip replacement then I wouldn't have been able to have my hip joints moved as they had been. He suggested I talk to my GP and ask about the possibility of bursitis.

Voila!!! 2 injections of a steroidal cortisone and the pain was gone totally. Those injections lasted 3 years. I've just had them done again and again, the pain has gone.

I'm more than please with that result as you can imagine.

I'm off to work now. Will check in again when I can.

I think the North Yorkshire Moors are God's own country. I love Northumberland too - especially driving up the coast.

I must be off and get some things done before going to my daughter's after lunch.

Goodnight to all our Brit friends and a good day to Persey and Berona who is late but may still be on soon.

~~~~~~to Amanda, Carole, Janet, Pamela, Sandie and everyone else looking in.
Berona Report 8 Oct 2010 23:51
I've been reading the posts and just got here again in time to say goodnight to Linda! Sleep tight. Could you reserve a little of he room in the big bed for Diane? She won't stay long, but she does need comfort.
Tec - I haven't spent any of your generous gift - yet. I'm busy working out just how much I can get for the 10K - and really, there is not a lot! I have rather expensive tastes. Perhaps you could see your way to doubling the gift?
Tecwyn
Tecwyn Report 8 Oct 2010 23:56
Berona you're worse than that cheeky Linda - so I'm going to sleep on your request - but don't get your hopes up - Goodnight.
Berona Report 9 Oct 2010 00:04
Aww Tec, I'm really not that cheeky. I'm just allowing for inflation. And you're such a generous person!
Hope you and the duchess sleep tight. Leave a little bit of room for Diane.
Good night.
Good morning thread.
Pam I missed you by one minute last night, what a shame.
Berona I agree with you, 10K is such a paltry sum, just spending money really (I wish)
I see that someone in the UK won the incredible double roll over Euro millions draw last night. Sadly not me as I didn't have a ticket. Maybe it was Tec?
Berona
Berona Report 9 Oct 2010 10:48
Wouldn't it be lovely??? If it was Tec, he might be out looking at cruisers.....and if so, we will definitely need more than 10K, now that we have to get all the gear we want to take on the cruise.
Come on Tec, don't keep us in suspenders....err....suspense!
Tecwyn
Tecwyn Report 9 Oct 2010 17:53
Sadly - Very sadly - sorry to inform you all that it wasn't me who won the £130 million on the Euro Lottery.
Had it have been, all regular posters on the thread would be millionaires today - just something for you to think about. Although I expect Linda and Berona would still have insinuated that I'm tight.
Anyway, I've been thinking about that win - what would I do with the money apart from give it all away to good causes.Yes, I know, you are all good causes.
Tec.
LindainHerriotCountry
LindainHerriotCountry Report 9 Oct 2010 19:42
Well you could have fun giving it away Tec, I would like to try in any case
Did you manage to go out today? I do hope so.
Where is Diane, I need another star on my housework star chart. i have cleaned all the inside of the windows today. In estate agent speak, this house would be described as light and airy. Translated that means there are millions of flipping windows. Add to that all the mirrors, mirror wardrobe doors and the huge number of pictures on the walls and that is a huge amount of glass to clean.
I am also chuffed because I have found some missing baptisms and marriages from the very top of my tree. they were on the new beta LDS site. i had already trawled through all the images of the Bishops transcripts but some of the years I needed were missing
