OH had a huge job cutting the grass as he had sprayed 'weeder-feeder' on the front and back lawns. You have to leave it for a couple of weeks and then of course you have brown blotches all over the lawn. For some reason clover has taken hold of all the lawns in region. It's flourishing and looks lovely and green but we don't want it in the lawn. Luckily the stuff OH sprayed has killed it off. I wish that the young couple next door - as lovely as they are - would keep their weeds in check. They are moving into our lawn:-( |

We don't get a garden refuse bin in our area . Is it for the sorts of things one would put into compost ? |

The family next door to us (who are lovely) don't cut their lawns as often as they should and they are infested with dandelions, OH is paranoid about not having them in our lawn |

Yes Amanda - It's for everything you would normally put in a compost heap, including waste food. I don't have a compost heap here as my garden isn't big enough really. The Council take it to their own compost making unit - no idea what they do with it. |

We are not allowed to put any waste food in ours at all Tec, just garden waste. |

I don't altogether approve of waste food going into the garden waste bin because it's only collected once a fortnight - not very nice in the hot weather. We don't actually throw much food away, but I'm sure some people do, especially those with little children. |

They probably sell it Tec. We have 3 bins. Normal household rubbish, a recycling bin and a green waste bin. We don't have veggie or fruit waste because that goes into the worm farm and as we don't eat much meat etc. there's very little waste food. |

What I meant was Linda, is that I don't know what the Council do with the compost once they've made it - as far as I know they don't sell it. |

A friend of ours has a neighbour who had a tree lopping company cut down some trees. Our friend asked if she could have some wood chippings from the machine they used. They said they would be happy to and left 40 bags on the drive-way:-)) |

Poor lady Sue lol - maybe she could sell it as a mulch to her neighbours. |

She offered us some but we just have no use for it as our garden is well mulched. I thought it couldn't be used when freshly chipped. Another friend goes to the local stables for fresh manure and he swears by it for the garden. |

Does it smell when you spread it around? We use chicken manure. We have a local egg seller who also sells bags of manure. Useful critters those chickens:-)) |

We let it stand for several months in a heap so it breaks down before we use it, it is fine then |

It's a lovely night - clear sky with thousands of stars, but no moon. If it wasn't dark, it would be sunny. |
