*$parkling $andie* Report 10 Oct 2010 22:33

Hi all~~~
Am late again.!!
Done all my shirts this time Sue:)
Just been outside sorting out my recycling for tomorrow, and red'd some free advice from a distant neighbour who is a physio.
He has 2 little tiny Jack Russells and I always stop and pet them, I was pacing the drive as my knee was playing up, so he asked what I was doing and gave me some advice on massage and relief, also on my right hand where I have a trapped ulnar nerve. Wow free consultation at 10pm at night, just cos I love dogs, Di will tell you about me and dogs:) Luv em to bits.
See you're talking about recycling, we have a weekly collection of food waste, plastic, glass, paper and tins, and fortnightly for the general waste.
I wish our neighbours would lop their trees or if conifers ,of which there are loads 30ft high chop them down altogether !
Spoils my view and the acid rain produced .. well that's another discussion !

Enjoy your stroll Tec .

Linda ...we bought a load of manure once for the allotment , we had been given a phone number by " old Bob " ( pronounced " ollddd Barbb " it being Norfolk ) , OH phoned and ordered a load and was told we would get a call when it was ready to be delivered , the call came ; ! It's Meadows 'ere with yor manure " ( said in the thickest Norfolk dialect imaginable ) . Apparently he arrived in the most un- road worthy tractor ever that was squirting out oil from every available place to leak !
Actually we didn't find that manure made much difference to how stuff grew and came to the conclusion that homemade compost is in fact far better .

We get the manure for free, it breaks down slowly so feeds the plants over a long period without getting washed out as soluble stuff does

Hubby gets sack loads of horse manure for free too, to rot over the garden from the autumn, and we make our own compost, have a large garden and he grows veg on the one side.
It's a clear sky here Tec, sparkling stars, but it's been very windy today,
Blew over one of our clematis on a pot growing up an obelisk, smashed the obelisk, just hope we can save the clematis.

Hi Sandie - glad to hear your ironing is done lol. Lucky you having a physio for a neighbour and one with dogs so you can open the conversation:-))

Amanda - that's a funny story. We used to have mushroom compost delivered and one time we weren't home we found a note in the postbox asking us to pay at our convenience. We did but wondered how many people wouldn't bother. The mushroom farm isn't there anymore which is a shame as we really like the compost - it even gaves us some mushrooms now and then:-))

Hi Sandie, we had a terribly strong wind for several days, but it was calm today, so the wind must have gone south toward you - sorry.

Hello Sandie ....I hope your Clematis survives it's battering .

Spent muchroom compost sounds good Sue , I should imagine it smells rather nice as well .

SueMaid Report 10 Oct 2010 22:49

That's a shame about the obelisk. As I've said before I hate wind. It can be so destructive.

After a heavy downpour lasting 10 minutes the sun has come out and the air smells beautiful.

Amanda - it's good stuff. It smells good and has the advantage of still throwing up the odd mushroom.

SueMaid Report 10 Oct 2010 22:51

Well there you go - two different opinions on the smell. Do you get Dynamic Lifter in the UK? Now that I can't bear the smell of.

Tecwyn Report 10 Oct 2010 22:54

I could really do with a Dynamic Lifter in this house at times, but not if he smells lol.

It's packaged fertiliser Amanda. I'm not sure what exactly it contains but when you go for a walk in spring you can tell who has it on the gardens. It really smells awful to me but obviously doesn't bother some people. I don't like the smell of blood and bone either.

Berona Report 10 Oct 2010 22:56

Hello all. Hope you are all well.

I had a neighbour for many years who bought ten bags of chicken manure every year and spread it around EVERYwhere, then turned the sprinkler on full blast every evening.
We had to keep our doors and windows closed for a couple of weeks until the smell abated, but it didn't stop anyone who came to our front door from asking "What's that smell?". It invaded the whole street.

Sue .... I googled it , I think it might be Blood and Bone under a different guise ? My cats go a bit mad if I sprinkle Fish blood and bone about in the boarders ....lol
