Hello Carole, and Colin - hope you are both well.

I have been out today.....nowhere exciting.....but out.

Well done for going out Tec.

Sue was talking about spring cleaning and as an honorary Aussie, I obviously think that it is spring.

So today I washed down all the paintwork in the house. All the doors, door architraves, skirting boards.stairs, windows and sills. it took for ever and was hard going. Part of the trouble is that who ever the joiner was who did this house, he was determined to use every single form of beading to make incredibly ridgy door frames and skirting boards,so they are a real pain to clean. Still it is all done and anyone can come and run their fingers along the top of my doors and they won't find a speck of dust.

It is still all Sue's fault though

Hi everyone~~~

Making headway on the bathroom, hubby is removing the leftover adhesive from the old tiles as I type.
The advice on the net was a hair-dryer to soften it, which seemed to work ,but hubby has a hot air gun paint stripper which he is using now.

I'm going to go the net now to find a way of insulating the toilet cistern, I've seen it somewhere before but can't remember where !!!
Summer or winter we have condensation on the cistern, and when we put in the new one I don't want it ruining the flooring.

Speak later~~

Hello all of you , I would like to say thank you to you for the kind words and thoughts , you have all helped me to feel happier : ))

I haven't sunk into maudlin thoughts ( as I feared I might ) , I've been far to occupied with looking after the living to dwell on the past . I've had the little Granddaughter here most of the day ( she really is coming on in leaps and bounds .....lol ) and has kept me rushing about all day .
Also I've been keeping an eye on the Miners rescue , which is a most uplifting situation to be viewing , I've shed a few tears of joy for those men and their families .

Tec ....I hope you enjoyed getting out , even if it wasn't anywhere exciting.
Linda .... I think you need to put your feet up after all that activity , your home must be gleaming : )
Sandie ...good luck with finding a way to stop water condensing on your cistern , mine drips in the winter months and it is annoying .

Hello Sandie and Amanda,

I am glad that you have managed to keep busy and get through the day Amanda, it is good to remember all the nice things about someone.

I have been looking in on the miners as well, it is nice to see such good news on TV for once

Because I was doing so much cleaning, OH asked me if someone was coming to stay. As i pointed out we had people staying last week and I wasn't doing it then. He says that the house always looks clean - well yes, that would be because I am always cleaning it. To be fair, since he retired he does help, he does the hoovering, which is good, but the concept of getting into corners seems to be beyond him and it would never occur to him to pull the sofas forward to get behind them.

I am really pleased because I saw this link on another board

http://austcemindex.com/

I found the burial date for my mothers uncle in Brisbane. Unfortunately his was an unmarked grave,so there is no inscription. I still don't know why he was there because all the rest of the large family group was in Victoria.I would buy the cert, but you can't do it online and it is expensive compared to ours

I have lots of burial dates from Geelong, but it would be nice to have the inscriptions. Unfortunately there is not much for Victoria, but if any one has ancestors in NSW or Queensland, they seem to be well covered.

Hi Everyone,

Today was another beautiful day here, sunny, warm, with a thin autumnal mist over the hills and fields. We enjoyed the drive to Machynlleth in the old county of Montgomeryshire, now Powys.

Little people are good for keeping you preoccupied Amanda, I hope your little grand daughter didn't run you off your feet.

Linda the joiner put all those fiddly bits in because he knew you liked cleaning them and didn't want to disappoint. Thing is, now that you've done the Spring cleaning, what will you have to do in the Spring?

Sandie it's curious that you have condensation on that cistern, I wonder what causes it? Hope you solve the problem anyway.

Tec.

G'day mates:-))

I'd like to know why I'm to blame when I've been asleep while you've been working your fingers to the bone Linda.

Tec - nice to see you've been out even if it wasn't very exciting. Was the weather nice for your outing?

Amanda - I'm glad you didn't have too much time to reflect. Grandchildren certainly keep you on your toes. I hope it wasn't too hard a day for you.

Nice to see Colin.

Hello Tec, I always think it is a shame when they mess about with the county names

Oh dear Linda - perhaps you should have a cup of tea and a nice lie down:-))

I've been looking at the records on Ancestry for London. The earlier records are now fully searchable. I've found OH's 6 x great grandfather's baptism so I'm able to go back another generation. The writing on the record is beautiful although difficult to read. The one I read is nearly 280 years old.

Good Morning Sue,

Hope you are feeling better today, and the cold has improved. Yes it was a lovely day here, a real bonus in the middle of October.

Linda you've done all that work for nothing - that will teach you to pay attention to Sue :))
I also wish they had left the old county names as they were. We used to live in Denbighshire, now renamed Clwyd. Where we live now was called Merionethshire, but now Gwynedd, and as I said where we went today was Montgomeryshire, but now Powys. I think the old names were far nicer, although the "new" names are actually ancient Welsh names for the respective counties.

I have found some extra things for my tree over the last few days,

Tec ....you've painted a lovely verbal picture there , I wish I was there wandering the Welsh hillsides on a crisp Autumnal day ....lol
I do so love the hills and valleys .

Yes , Emily kept me on the run all day , she is really starting to chatter these days and I can actually catch a few words in the babble now...lol
She spent nearly an hour playing with plastic food ( testing each piece with her mouth of course ) , I'll have to get her a set for Christmas this year.

I haven't Spring cleaned but I did get the hoover out and swept the stairs . Does anyone else put there vacuum dust in the compost bin ?

I had hoped to find my 3 x G. Grandfather on those records Sue but he is remaining a brickwall : (

OH. puts it on the compost heap on the allotment Amanda

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 13 Oct 2010 21:27

Hello Linda ..... I'm glad you said that , I've only started putting it in this year , the dust / fluff from my house is rich in animal fur as we have so many pets , I believe hair / fur is supposed to be good for growing peas and beans , so I thought I'd give it a go .

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Oct 2010 21:36

We don't have any pets,so it is just dust. I think OH read it on some allotment site somewhere
