OH puts dog fur and dust in the worm farm. I didn't think the fur would be good but that's what the book says. I went and had a look the other day and they are very healthy looking worms. OH had a recipe for a booster feed - it's certainly worked.

Tec - I feel a lot better this morning for having had a good night's sleep. Thank you.

Ah, we put the worms outside after the worst of the winter was over, but the large healthy ones died, there were just some tiny ones left,so OH took them down to the allotment and put them in the compost bin

Glad you're feeling better Sue - you must be in tip top form for the unveiling, and looking your regal best.
How do you recognise a healthy worm lol.

Amanda - I love this time of year - the smell, rather like mushrooms when you walk through the woods, the trees changing colour, and the mist hanging over the countryside. It's all a bit special - also the arrival of the first English Cox's apples in the shops.

All this chat about worms has bought a ditty that I'd forgotten to my mind ;

Waldo worm never worries , does his work , down in his own dark world .

There , now I've posted it perhaps it will stop going round in my head ! ....lol

Tec ....your a man after my own heart : )) We went for a walk in the local woods last week and it was all dank and mushroom smelling , Autumn certainly has it's own aroma .
I actually spotted a " fungus " man striding though the trees , he was carrying a blue plastic shopping basket and I could see he had been gathering natures bounty in fungus form . Personally I'd never dare to eat wild mushrooms just in case I got the identification wrong .

I'm sorry I keep disappearing - I've been looking at records on Ancestry. I find the really old ones fascinating. It's amazing that a tiny baby who died 2 months old over 250 years ago is still there for all to see. So many infant deaths.

Do you have London ancestors Linda. I don't but OH has an abundance.

No, I don't Sue. Some of OH's ended up in Woolwich, but that was later on. I am delving in Canadian records at the moment

SueMaid Report 13 Oct 2010 22:28

OH's paternal ancestors appear to be Londoners from way back. One lot were rope makers and had a factory near the docks on the Thames. I was able to find an old sketch of the area. They lived on Jamaica Row (Road) and I have a map showing their house. I've been told it was a very posh area. Within two generations it would appear the family fortune was gone.

Berona Report 13 Oct 2010 22:33

Evening, all Brits - 'Morning, upsidedowners!
Nobody saying goodnight, yet? (I AM improving!).

Started the day with an email from Amanda with a link to her Facebook photos - and seeing all those lovely (and unusual) flowers, has put me in a lovely mood for the day!

Not sure that I understand you Linda, when you talk about Spring cleaning. What's that? (he he, as if I didn't know - just giving myself an excuse for not doing it).

My dtr sometimes brings her vacuum cleaner, saying mine isn't good enough to pick up all the cat hair. I don't say anything, as I appreciate all that she does, but I sometimes feel like reminding her that this is Kitty's home too and our Strata rules state that we must keep any pets within our own boundaries. I didn't know about the worms liking it, but I don't know anyone who keeps worms, so our cleaners are emptied into the plastic bag within the kitchen bin and into the wheelie bin.

If you like mushrooms Amanda there is nothing more delicious than wild ones. They are easily identifiable, I was taught by my dad and books how to identify them from toadstools or puffballs or other fungi.
In his 80's dad used to get up early ,6am and go up the mountain to pick them, he'd lived in the village all his life so knew where to find them:)
He didn't like the closed cup cultivated ones from the supermarkets, tho I like them raw.
Wild ones are best cooked fried in a little dab of butter. Mmm
Close cupped ones I grill.

I have to go back and read a couple of pages before you lot go to bed.
I got to where Linda's OH doesn't pull out the sofa to clean behind it..... well you never know what you might find behind there perhaps a Leonardo da Vinci or Manet or Monet (I don't even find money).... someone jokingly around here said yesterday ''they pulled a couch out in Italy and found shrivelled up chicken wings."

Now back to reading and good morning/evening all you lovely people.
