I've never known anyone take offence at being called "a nutter". It's always used in jest, usually among men or lads.
Equally, I've never heard anyone take offence at being told their "nuts". It goes with crackers, barmy, that sort of thing - almost always used in jest, and not considered offensive.

Hello Amanda, How are you this evening?

Tec.

Hello Tec ......I'm fine thank you : ))

I think most people quite like being told they are a " nutter " in jest , it makes them feel special ......lol

Berona Report 22 Oct 2010 22:42

Oops - just found out the meaning of the first one.
Sue - we'd better write that one on our list of 'words not to be used'.

Tec - what part of Parramatta Road? It is about 18 miles long and takes in a few suburbs.

Well I must have definitely lead a sheltered life because I know nothing of Roasted other than dinners .
My kids over the years have exposed me to a great deal of the modern slang but never that one .

Linda , everyone needs a little break from being an upright citizen , you go girl ! lol

Berona, I can't remember, was a long time ago, but it was about a 15 minute drive into the city in those days - seem to remember there were lots of used car lots just where I was.

Excuse me, I rolled about the road because I tripped in a pot hole, I had not been out for lunch that day!

Berona Report 22 Oct 2010 22:55

We rented a place in Parramatta Road for a few months, while we waited for our house to be built.
Constant traffic, 24/7 - still the same.
There used to be an area known as 'the magic mile of motors' - that was about half way - Lidcombe, Auburn, Strathfield. Any of those ring a bell?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 22 Oct 2010 22:55

Thank you Linda - told you I'd led a sheltered life, now do you believe me lol.

Oh dear, anyone else reading this is going to think I am some sort of nutter for sure. it was ll Sue's fault as usual

SueMaid Report 22 Oct 2010 22:58

I don't want to talk about the double meanings of words anymore - it's making me blush and feel a little faint. You all know I'm very sensitive:-))

How very unladylike Linda - rolling around on the road. I know your town and the locals must've been shocked.

Berona, Strathfield definately rings bells, because I remember associating sp with the old P&O ships that went out of service, Strathaird, Stratheden, Strathnaver etc.
I've got some old letters somewhere with those friends address on, I'll dig them out sometime.
They were the friends that called me "Our mate the Pommie Galah" they were all "nutters" and pushed me in the water at Circular Quay and nearly got me arrested - good days.

Sue there are some old men (like me) walking about Sydney who could tell a few tales, with a grin on their faces. Sadly you'll never meet them - I hope lol :))
