Sue,and Berona, As you would no doubt know we have the large yellow tail and red tail black cockatoos up here. One time when I was playing golf in Wauchope there near Port Macquarie I saw their flock of yellow tail blacks. Magnificent. But the notable thing was, one of the birds was just yellow. It's a mutation but very unusual. There was talk of trying to catch it to let scientists try to isolate the gene but thankfully that was pooh hood by the locals. One fellow said if he saw anyone out there trying to net the bird he'd be there with his scatter gun.

Good on him. But it was a beautiful bird.

I know, Linda. But I suppose it's what you're used to. I've always said I'm a tropical bird and that was even during many of the latter of 58 years that I lived south in Sydney. But in the 10 years since I've been up here, the only time I'm uncomfortable is when I'm down in Cairns. The humidity there is a killer. Up here in the mountains (called the Tablelands) it's much cooler because we're up at least 600 metres.

It's all relative I guess - I can well remember my SIL in England sweating and complaining of the heat when it was 25 degs. She asked if salad would be ok for tea as it was too hot to cook. To us it was wonderful. We complain when the temp. drops down to 14 -15 degs and our family in the UK laugh at us.

I know Sue. Can you imagine how they must have suffered when the convict ships first came out here and the only clothing they had was made of wool? And they were expected to work at hard labour in it as well. I can just imagine the skin infections etc they would have had.

I was in Vancouver one time, I think it was August (?) and I was cold so was wearing my fur coat. We could in those days without getting paint thrown at us. I was on a bus and passed a park where a girl was sunbathing in a bikini. It was 14c!! Unreal.

We've been up to the Blue Mountains and rugged up in coats when the locals are walking around in shorts an t-shirts. When we were in Mudgee and Moree last November we sweltered in 30+ degs. but the locals were more than happy with the weather. Of course they are smart and get all their jobs done early in the morning or later in the afternoon. The streets are empty from 11 to 2.

Oh has told me that I have to go to bed now!
So being a dutiful wife, I must obey.

He has actually just put the oil on the kitchen floor. I was going to do it, but the lovely man offered. He wants to do the bit of the hall at the bottom of the stairs as well,so I wont be able to walk on it.

So have a good time with your friends Pam and enjoy your day as well Sue

Good evening/morning to everyone. I've read your posts this time.
Our weather bureau was actually right yesterday. Forecast 27 for us and we got to 28. Lovely day shaping up to-day, so far.

My house hasn't warmed up yet, so I am feeling cold and I'm about to go and get a jacket on for a while.

SueMaid Report 26 Oct 2010 22:42

See you later Amanda - I was doing that yesterday but I became too frustrated and left it:-))

Hello Berona - it was lovely here when I got up but it's becoming overcast. As long as it stays dry for the washing. It's cold in the house and I've still got my winter dressing gown on.

Goodnight Linda,
sleep well - keep warm.

Good Morning Berona,
Sounds like you will have a lovely day - I hope so.
It was minus 6 in parts of Wales last night. Today was 11C. the champagne is on ice all ready for your party, the buffet is being prepared, and the candles are on the cake - not the paper cake lol.

Hello Diane - Goodnight Diane lol,
Diane passes through like a hurricane - there she was gone.

Pamela

Pamela Report 26 Oct 2010 23:07

Tec with temperatures like that you won't need to put the champers on ice. Just leave it on the table. lol

Funny isn't it? Red wine is supposed to be served at room temperature. What where is this temperature taken from? France, Germany, UK? Sure isn't Australia. People here think I"m weird because I'll open a bottle of red and keep it in the fridge. Or, if I open it to drink straight away, I'll put an iceblock in it. My stepfather told me that you never drink wine without having water as well. Supposed to stop liver damage. Makes sense, really. So that's my concession to the water. An ice cube.

We drink a wine called cienna (Brown Bros.) which is red, a little bubbly and definately meant to be drunk chilled. Very refreshing in summer.

I must be off to start the day.

Bye, friends - I'll see you all later:-))

Pam I think an ice cube is enough of a concession.
Never understood people putting water in whisky, sacriledge sp.

Well I must away to my bed, the wind is howling past the windows.
Enjoy your day Sue, Pam, Berona,
Sleep well Amanda when you descend from your tree.

Goodnight all,
Tec.

Berona

Berona Report 26 Oct 2010 23:26

Hi Pam - I've often wondered that too. Anyway, in spite of the fact that Linda and I attended the same finishing school in Switzerland (in our dreams), I still like all cold drinks, really icy cold - whatever they are.

Every night, I put a fresh 2litre jug of water in the fridge for next day - and in mid-summer, I add an extra jug rotating them so that I will always have ice water.

Goodnight Tec , keep nice and warm .

Have a good day you people in warmer climes .

I'll be off to my bed soon , we had Granddaughter Emily to sleep over last night , she ended up in our bed , it's amazing how much space a small person of nearly 18 months age can take up !! I think I shall sleep like the proverbial log tonight .....lol
