Well you can take your mum out next week sue and tell your daughter that she can't come.
Do you think Tec has been blown away?

Berona

Berona Report 29 Oct 2010 22:33

Oh yes, many a war is started on religion. I am certainly no expert, but I did read (so don't quote me) that their 'bible' contains statements made by their 'prophet' but the book wasn't written until 150 years after he died.

When people are quoted in a book, I like to see that they are still around to confirm or deny that they really did say what is quoted.

SueMaid Report 29 Oct 2010 22:36

Well I guess our bible has been translated and misquoted over many hundreds of years. It's still a source of great comfort to many people but you have to ask - are the gospels really what were said and done.

I agree Berona, if you don't like a country's way's then don't go, the trouble in this country is we are to soft and allow the european goverment to tell us what we should except, even though I respect other people's way's and culture's I feel it wrong to be forced to have their law's in this country.
After all if we went to their country we have to live by their law's or leave, so why should we have to change are law's for them. ( Sorry if this affend's anyone ) I don't mean to if it doe's I am happy to remove it.

I'm back - having got soaked while Ianto wandered about like it was a sunny day in June - silly dog - the sea sounds horrendous.

Hi Sue, Diane and Berona,
I hope you have a lovely time with your family at lunch today Berona..

I have no problem with different cultures wearing their tradiitional dress, that's their choice, as mine would be in a foriegn country. I would hoever prefer to see peoples faces - it seems so alien to me not to see someones face when talking to them.

I couldn't agree more Tec,
As with everything it is all things in moderation, the zealots and fanatics are the problem.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 29 Oct 2010 22:53

My children have always had friends of all religions, mainly because all the foreign doctors and business men sent their children to private school as well lol

Little Eve is going to have a Humanist naming ceremony. She will have two sponsors, one is my daughters best friend, she is a Muslim from Pakistan, the other one is her fathers best friend, he comes from Israel and is Jewish.

Diane Report 29 Oct 2010 22:56

I Agree also but I do think that when it is necessary ( like in court ) they should remove them if requested, my only other comment is that if the female's are all dressed like this and you had to identify them if they commit a crime it would be very difficult don't you think.

Diane I believe that Muslim women are required to reveal their face at airports to a female officers, in private, for identification purposes.

Sorry - my daughter rang up for a quick chat.

I also don't like faces fully covered. Not something you often see here in my area. But head scarfs don't bother me. I do get a little annoyed when I see young Muslim men wearing modern clothing while their young wives are covered from head to toe but that's the feminist in me.

I must be off as I want to do some early shopping before I garden. The men must be fed:-))

Have a great lunch Berona.

A good day/evening to you all.

~~~~~~~~~to all looking in.
I feel Tec if I was to discuse what I mean in depth it may be thought that I was insinuating that Muslim woman were all criminal's and that wouldn't be what I ment at all so I think it is best not said. I'm not refering to the usual peep's on this thread when I say this, but you don't know who is reading this and there are those who would use what I said as a reason to kick off.
Hope you have dried out after your walk round the garden hun.
I understand what you are saying Diane.
Where I live there are no ethnic minorities, which means that the children here don't get the opportunity to mix with or get to understand different cultures. I do wonder how this will affect them when they leave to go to University, or employment in multi-cultural areas of the cities.
Berona
Berona Report 29 Oct 2010 23:33
Sorry I wasn't very clear Linda. We talk of 'the bible' meaning the Christian bible. However, I understand that the word 'bible' refers to an official book of instructions - and can be used to describe other things besides religion - such as 'how to' manufacture or use items of machinery, etc.
People are still examining the Christian bible because it was written in so many languages and has been translated over and over and changes again as any old manuscripts are found - and translated. Perhaps this is why there are so many different religions - each accepting a translation which others may not accept.
I am not offended, but I feel that the way we believe is in our hearts and is somewhat personal, so I see no reason why some people need to wear certain types of clothing, etc. to 'advertise' which religion they follow.
