My daughter was here on Sunday she asked what I wanted for Christmas - I replied "socks" as I always do as she gets so cross lol.
Then I said "Nothing technical" like the MP3 Player, and the I-Pod that I've never used.

Oh dear, Tec - you're not With It!! You sound like my brother. Everytime he is asked what he wants - it's "socks, singlets, u/pants". One year, my DIL stamped her foot and said "I refuse to buy undies for my husband's uncle!". I told him and he comes up with better ideas these days. He is very generous when he buys for the young ones - but he never buys anything for himself and "makes do" with the strangest of materials!

He had been given a small griller. I have one the same and do all of my meat on it. I opened his and found that the teflon coating was completely gone. It seems that he thought it was a sandwich toaster - and because he is fanatical about cleaning, he had always cleaned it with steel wool!

Tecwyn Report 1 Nov 2010 23:29

Berona I just say socks because I know my daughter gets cross with me.
But at my age, what do you "need" - no use spending money on technical gadgets that I'll never use.
I would be happy with socks, but no one will accept that.

I love your story of your brother and the Teflon coating LOL.

Just dragging this up from page three before I go out, it is cinema duty again tonight.

I have been wandering about Geelong all afternoon, metaphorically speaking that it, so I am tired out with Australia. I have made some good progress on my tree and probably would have made more if I hadn't had to spend time reinstalling my Digger discs.

Don't ask for socks Tec, ask for a basket of goodies. Lots of my golden oldie friends, which given my age is most of them nowadays, have all the material things they need,so I often make up little baskets or hampers full of nice foodie treats instead.

Today was gruesome in Wild Wales, very wet, and very windy and dark, so we had the lights on nearly all day.

I mentioned the other day that I've got an amazing show of azaleas that should flower in the Spring. This morning I was surprised to find primroses in flower in my garden. All very odd.

The basket of goodies is a good idea Linda - we did that for my mother for several years, and filled it with nice things that she would never treat herself to.
My daughter presented me with a presentation box of World Cheeses, and a nice bottle of wine when she visited on Sunday that she'd bought in Fortnum and Masons when in London the previous week. That was a nice gift that I've put away 'till Christmas.

Hello my friends - hope you are all well. Sunshine at last today and I'm looking outside at a glorious morning.

Linda - I often make up hampers for people who I like to give a gift to but have no idea what to give. Last year I gave my daughter's ex-MIL a basket with a nice cup and saucer, teas, fancy biscuits etc. It was really well received. I've also given a cheese board with nice cheeses to a friend.

I'm having a little trouble with this computer so if I disappear you'll know why. It keeps dropping out - very frustrating.

Good Morning Sue,
Pleased for you that the sun is shining at last - will you be in the garden today?
I have lots to do in my garden, including planting bulbs, but it's been just too wet, and the forecast is for rain until Saterday,in fact we have a severe weather warning tonight, so sounds like a rough night to come.

Hope your computer stays the course - talk to it nicely lol.

I'm treating this computer with care Tec:-)) I will do some gardening because the weeds are thriving. OH is looking at the lawn with a thoughtful look on his face so I think he'll be mowing this morning. It's good to see the mountains - I'd almost forgotten they were there.

Are the bulbs you are planting for Spring? We generally plants bulbs in April/May for Spring. Of course that's in our area. With such a range of climate conditions the planting varies. Our area is known as a 'temperate' zone. Our gardening magazines have monthly "what to do" guides which have a number of zones to suit different areas of Australia such as 'tropical' and 'arid' etc.

Good evening / morning folks ,

Tec , I saw the weather forecast for your area this morning and thought poor you : ( I hope it isn't too awful .
Primroses in November ? What is the world coming to ! Having said that I think my daffodil bulbs are trying to come up in a tub out the front . It's mad .

Hello Sue , glad to know you have sunshine at last : )) Be kind to your computer and don't swear at it ....lol

Linda , I hope you had a nice time on cinema duty this evening .

Tecwyn Report 2 Nov 2010 21:26

Sue the bulbs I have are Spring flowering, miniture doffodils and other narcissi types. They should have been in by now, but I only bought these recently when I spotted them greatly reduced on a market stall - they look like good healthy bulbs. Some of my Spring bulbs came up "blind" last year, so I thought I would plant more.
We have a very mild climate here on the West coast - we haven't had a frost yet, but my daughter who lives in Shropshire 100 miles away has been scraping frost off her windscreen every day for a few weeks before she goes to work.
We normally have flowers of some sort in the garden all year round here.

Hi Amanda,

Just been in the garden with the dog, could barely stand up, and the rain was stinging my face - if I'm not heard of again I'm somewhere in the Irish Sea, clinging to a raft lol.
Thinking of all those poor Irishmen on the ferry tonight.

Amanda I love my dog, but I do wish he would go out on his own instead of me having to hold the torch in case something grabs him lol.
