Sue there's quite a knack to manouvering coracle, they tend to go round and round in circles, and look very unstable to me.
I'd much prefer an ocean liner with huge engines and propellers lol.

Amanda - Ianto has got worse with old age, he doesn't see too well now, so has lost a lot of confidence. He used to tear off on his own when out, but now sticks very close to me.
He has always been a bit timid, and hates water, unusual for a lab. His sister was fearless, loved swimming in the sea, she was always into mischief, and he would come to tell me.

Hello everyone. I've been working again so unable to get here. Work around the property and house all day till about 2pm then shower and drive to Cairns, work from 4pm to 8pm then home, check birds are all OK (Have a fear of a big snake coming while I'm not home - though I don't know what I'd do about a big snake) then to bed.

Linda and Berona: I read your posts about the burqua. Sad thing about all this is that people have been conned into believing that this is a religious issue when it isn't. It's a cultural issue.

I always thought it was religion until I was interviewing an Islamic man one day and we got to talking about the religion. He said that it isn't a religious thing. Otherwise all Islamic people all over the world would be wearing them. And if you look around there are many Islamic women who only wear a scarf, not the burqua.

It's a cultural thing. In many of these cultures the woman is subservient to the man; not allowed to leave the house without a man; is considered to be a 'loose woman' if she shows her face to anyone other than her husband and her children - and that applies to her male children after they reach puberty.

He told me that there is nothing in the Koran to say that a woman has to cover herself up that way; it does say that women should conduct themselves in a sedate manner, but nothing about now showing their face etc.

I was surprised at some of the things he told me because I had always believed that these things, like chopping off even a child's hand for stealing, was a religious thing. It isn't. It's cultural. And there are fanatics who take all this to the umpteenth degree in many countries in the world.

I guess if you look closely enough, there are some supposed Christian religious fanatics who do the same sort of thing.

Ianto sounds like a lovely old boy : )) We saw a very waggy young Lab today when we where out walking , he just had " play with me " all over his face ...lol....my lot aren't to keen on " strangers " wanting to play but everyone was on their leads so at least he couldn't come bouncing up and get sent packing ....lol

Hello Linda , I hope you aren't to exhausted by your busy night . What was the film ?

Hello Pam , I hadn't seen you come in . I hope the birds are all ok today .

Good Morning Pam,

Good to see you again here. You certainly do have a busy life, and it's good to keep active isn't it.
Is there no way of making your cages or aviary big snake proof so that you don't have to worry when you're away? This may be a totally impracticle thing to do, so do excuse me if it's a silly question.

Amanda, I would love a labrador puppy, but Ianto wouldn't appreciate it now, and I don't think I could keep up lol.

Good Evening Linda,

Must have been a good film - were you selling sweets and things, or in the box office tonight - or playing the piano in the pit?

Hello Tec. Pam and Amanda.

The film was Made in Dagenham Amanda, but I didn't get to see any of it.

It has been quite a nice day here,we went out for lunch, which was very nice. The rain started just before we set out to walk to the cinema, luckily it stopped just before we came home

Gosh that's modern Linda. I had a vision of you hammering away at the piano as Pearl White was tied to the railway line - but then you are much too young to have a clue what I'm on about. lol :))

When I saw how late I am, I didn't expect to find anyone here but got a lovely surprise! Hello everyone. The Brits must ge adjusting to the clock change.

Same here, Sue - clear blue sky and sunshine - so far, anyway.

Linda - Tec is being cheeky - stand him in the corner!

Pam - the fact that the burka is cultural seems to me that the men are afraid of losing their women - and selfishly hide them from view. A bit different from the man who likes to see his wife dressed nicely and is proud to show her off to his friends, isn't it?

It must be hard for the girls who go to our high schools and mix with girls who talk of fashion and boys. They say they have a choice about covering their limbs and their hair, but what kind of choice is it?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 2 Nov 2010 23:10

No Linda, I was born a little after that, but I'm wearing well.
