There was a big Jewish section and a big Chinese section in the one we were at in Wellington. We have a Jewish cemetery in Auckland but it has quite often been vandalised.
The largest cemetery in the country is in Auckland out West called Waikumete and they have just caught a chap on camera driving his four wheeled drive and leaving great big gouges in the grass and damage in his wake. There have been other instances of this practice so they set up the cameras.

Persey (who is now removing the black & decker out of her handbag and replacing it with shaving foam and a squeegee.)

Hi Perse~~~

Long time no see / or speak :)
Good to see you back:)
Glad you had a nice break:)))

I must write these time differences down as yours differ so much.
Forgive any spelling mistakes as this lappy doesn't automatically spell check, and as it's hubby's i'm not going to change the settings:)

That is a good tip from Tec about the gravestones,if I can't read them I take rubbings, but I will try his tip, trouble is none of my men use shaving foam.lol...will have to buy some.
Rubbings work well cos I can then send them onto relatives who do not live locally, don't think that with the foam a photo would come out very well.

Have a good day and will catch up with you soon~~~~

Ooh !
What a wide sweeping statement!.... Made jokingly perhaps..? Hope so.

That's a bit like saying Prince William is Greek !
Just look at the rest of the Royal Family !

I doubt that many Australians would agree with that statement, neither do I.:(

Having traced my family tree back to the 1600s and found some 'foreigners'
not Welsh in there does that make me English or French or Italian..? I think not.

What about the many invasions the UK had over the yrs Romans to name just one! They didn't all run home :)

I must be Wenglish-iti..lol :)

Hello everyone ...... I've not been on here for a couple of days, I nearly joined in last night but got lured away by the big telly , only to watch some film that turned out to be not very good .....lol

We have been to the allotment this evening to have our bonfire and fireworks ( just a few nice quiet ones ) , the Grandchildren enjoyed the occasion ( which was the main reason for making it an event ) .
It did rain a bit and we all got damp but on the whole a fine time was had by all : ))

Nice to "see" you back Persey and Sandie .

I hope everyone has had a good day .

Ah - but we are not all of British heritage, Hazel.

"We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice:
I am, you are, we are Australian"

Good morning/evening, everyone. Hope you are all well.

Greetings from a soggy Wales.

Hello Sandie, Amanda, and Sue,

November the 5th - Bonfire Night, but not around here. It has poured all day. I haven't heard a single firework yet.
It's disappointing for the children who were hoping to have, or go to a bonfire. Maybe some of the charity organisations will have them tomorrow. The Round Table always had a huge bonfire and firework display in the local park where we used to live.

I like your poem Sue - says it all really.

Morning Sue : )) I hoe you have some sunshine today .

Hello Tec .....all I've been hearing all night is the load wizz BANGS of fireworks going off ....lol
Pehaps the rain will stop in Wales tomorrow and then the folk in your area will be out letting off their ones ?

Good evening everyone. It has been a reasonable day here, but is raining now. Odd as the forecast said we would have a ground frost and it would go down to 2 degrees tonight.I can hear lots of fireworks outside

There is a big bonfire and firework display tomorrow night, organised by the chamber of trade, but. I won't be going to that one. I am going to a bonfire on a local farm. It belongs to one of the committee members from the cinema and he hosts a large bonfire every year. Last year we burnt loads of the old seats which we has taken out when we managed to buy some newer ones from a cinema which was closing down. After the bonfire had cooled down we sold the metal frames for scrap. All proceeds to the cinema of course.

I will have a busy day because I am going to the Newcastle meet and it will be a bit of a rush to get back in time

Hi Amanda,

Tomorrow is supposed to be fairly dry here - we'll see.

I guessed you would be mesmerised by the big telly. I am looking forward to the rugby tomorrow, Wales v Australia in Cardiff.

Good evening/morning all!

The cover of my first passport issued in 1953 shows "An Australian Citizen by Birth and a British Subject". That was in the days when we used to celebrate Empire Day on 24th May (Australia's Cracker Night).

The cover of my last passport issued in 1982 shows "Australian Passport". Was I no longer a British subject?. (and our Cracker Night was moved to the Queen's Birthday weekend (June).

My ancestors were all British and all of us who were born in Australia have married into families of similar backgtround (British ancestors). People are still emigrating from Britain and going through the same process.

To complicate it further, my husband was one of these imigrants - so my children are half-English on his side alone, before I work out how much of ME is English.

Good Evening Linda,

I remember you saying about burning the cinema seats last year, seems incredible that a year has passed - what have I been doing?

I wondered if you would be going to the Newcastle "meet". Is that very far from you, never having been North I have no idea.
How do you know who is who at a meet - do they wear labels?

Tec.

Amanda2003 Report 5 Nov 2010 22:03

Good evening Linda ..... I hope you have a brilliant time at the meet tomorrow : )) and that you get back in good time for your bonfire .

Hello Sandie .....the tooth is behaving itself at the moment so I suspect when I go back to the dentist next week he will say " we will just leave it for the time being " .
Bella is getting along lovely , thank you , she is already looking bigger, she is three weeks old today .

Tec ....I wouldn't actually say I'm mesmerised by the big telly , I was just tying to drag myself away from looking at the computer screen every evening ....lol

I hope you enjoy the Rugby .
